A friend of mine, who is an avid GURPS defender in these times of D&D 3E, has come up with this piece of story.

I hope you will enjoy it as the harmless attempt at humor it is, instead of attacking it.

Also, remmeber this is a translation from his Portuguese text, so I can't even guarantee it is going to funny.

Enjoy!

[Story]
The Fellowship of the System
being the first part of The Lord of the Systems

Three Systems for Steve Jackson Games under the sky,
Seven for White Wolf, in their halls of stone,
Nine for the Underdog Publishers, doomed to bankruptcy,
One for TSR in their Dark Throne,
In the land of Wizards of the Coast, where the money lies.
One System to rule them all, One System to find them,
One System to bring them all, and in the Darkness bind them,
In the land of Wizards of the Coast, where the money lies.

Prologue

The market has changed. I can feel it in the books, I can feel it in the gaming tables, I can smell it in the stores.

Much that once was is lost, for no one has the books anymore for us to Xerox them.

It all started with the creation of the Great Systems. Three were created by Steve Jackson, immortal, the wisest and most fair of beings. Seven by White Wolf, great writers and designers of the Storyteller line. And nine, nine were created by the Underdog Publishers who, above all things, desired renewal.

For in these systems were the power and the will to propitiate fun and entertainment for each type of player.

But they were all deceived. For in the land of Wizards of the Coast, the black remains of TSR created another system, a Master System, and in this System it poured all its malice, cruelty and will to rule every gaming table.

One System to rule them all!

One by one, the free minds of Earth fell prey to the power of the System.

But there were those who resisted : A Last Alliance of traditionalist players refused to change systems, and bought other products and, in front of the shelves of Hobby Stores all over the planet, fought for the freedom of RPGers.

And in this moment, when almost all hope was lost, publishers all over the world acquired the rights to translate the System. They had the chance to destroy it, once and for all.

Victory was close. But the power of the System could not be undone.

And the hearts of men are easily corrupted, and the System has a will of its own.

The publishers translated it and, arriving in the homes of DMs all around the world, it consumed them.

"It came to me, my love, my Precious!"

The System brought unnatural longevity for Medieval Fantasy scenarios and, for long years, it poisoned the minds of the DMs. And, in the darkness of their homes and reading rooms, it waited.

Darkness came back to the gaming tables of the world, and rumors abounded of a Shadow in the North, whispers of a great Marketeering stroke by Wizards of the Coast. And the System realized its time was come. It abandoned the DMs.

But then, something happened which the System had not planned : it was found by an inteligent player, a GURPS player.

"What's this? A System!"

And there will come a day when the fates of us all will depend on the willpower of the GURPS players.

One roll to rule them all - Hey, they even said it in Dragon Magazine! :D

I like both systems, so I can live with humour targeted at one of them. :)

Despite the fact that it's a "used" idea, THIS IS GREAT!

Even translated, it shows a lot of attention to detail.

I love WotC, and I find this as funny as ****!

That is hiiiiiiiiiiiilarious! :D

However, it brings a question.

The GURPS player is the counterpart Bilbo Baggins.

Bilbo Baggins is small.

Does that make the GURPS player a munchkin? :p
