It may be that the book was published in Hungary, or some other poor country in Eastern Europe, but AFAIK most RPG material is being published in China.
Central Europe. Central Central Central.

Thank you. And this...

The mafia runs Budapest and much of the rest of the country. If you want something in that country and have the money you can get it. And if there is an early draft of the book around someone can get their hands on it print a simplified version of the cover, and publish it for cheap in order to make a buck. Budapest is wonderful if you are a tourist doing daytime tourist things, but be careful with the nightlife.
...is incredibly offensive. :):):):) off.

Hey, at least you aren't being confused with an entirely different country.

"Where are you from?"

"Yugoslavia"

"Oh, Czechoslovakia! I heard you guys make great beer!"

:banghead:

(oh, and aside from the mafia comment being quite offensive to Hungarian members of the forum, it's also laughable to think the mob would involve themselves in the procurement of illegal role-playing books in any way)

Melan's right, that was offensive: only Italy is run by mafia! How dare you to import our Sicilian trademark... wait for Don Corleone to hear this (btw, what's your favorite animal?).

Steriotipes are bad... both in real life and games :D

Chiming in before the thread gets closed...

...just to say that I'm surprised to hear so much troubles about a book that has been released 1 month too early. It is not a big deal at all! Release dates are a convenience, but the world doesn't fall apart if a shop makes a mistake and release a book earlier, just like if it releases the book later.

Having been to Budapest as well as Washington D.C. (oh, and Reno), I think it´s quite ironic for an American to complain/bs about crime in Hungary...

This is pretty offensive to Hungarian members of ENworld, even if you meant it as a joke. Please don't do it again.

Sorry to our Hungarian friends here.

I think it has to do with fair play. WOTC wants all retailers to respect release dates since in this day of global commerce if one store anywhere in the world releases a book early, its likely possible for people anywhere to buy the book. Due to shipping times, some retailers will get the book before others.

The idea is that if a shipment goes out and the stores in Washington state gets the book on Monday and a gaming store in Newfoundland, Canada doesn't get it until the following Monday then people from Newfoundland might decide to shop online with overnight shipping a week earlier from the stores outside of their local area.

So, in order to avoid this situation, they set a release date so that all stores release the book at the same time to give no one store the advantage over the others. From what I've been told by my local retailers that their WOTC reps are VERY strict about release dates and have threatened to no longer provide product to any store that breaks the release date.
