Hurricane Isabel and ENWorlders

I wasnt even making a tact roll. Look, we dont need to bicker over this. I've been through tons of storms in my life. Hurricanes and otherwise. My point is Isabel was not the huge punch it was made out to be, period.
Arthur, as far as storms go, let me tell you I'm from upstate New York. Don't talk to me about Nor'easters and ice storms. I've been through many of them, since before you were born. This was one of the scariest things I've been through. I've never worried that my house was going to have a tree crash through it, or that I was going to lose my car, or that I might lose my life. I felt all of those things on Thursday night.

Want to see what I did lose? This is the building my fiance's parents owned a motel unit in, where they would go to fish and for vacation. This is where I go on vacation. This is where I had friends who almost lost their lives. Go read the news articles here:

See those people hugging at the bottom of the second article? They are people I know, who now have no homes and no jobs. Don't tell me that "This was nothing". This was a big deal. If you've got no respect for what people lost, go somewhere else. Don't gloat in others misery, just because you lost power a few weeks ago. We lost more than that. You had an inconvienience, we have loss to deal with.

ArthurQ strikes again!

I also live in Charlottesville, and just got power back this morning. Thursday night was pretty scary. We have some really tall trees behind our house and one of them has been dead for quite a long time. It's actually in a neighbor's yard, but it's a monster (about 150 feet tall) and could easily reach (and crush?) our house if it fell toward us. So we slept downstairs on Thursday night for fear of it or its living brethren coming down on us. Fortunately, we suffered no significant damage (except for some serious wonkiness with my monitor which could be a total coincidence). Our neighbors were not so fortunate.

ArthurQ, expect an email. Folks, it is *never* appropriate for a member to threaten others with moderator action when they are not a moderator. Report a thread if you see a problem, but don't make empty threats about how you're going to get it locked down; we don't take kindly to bullying. That's a guaranteed way of annoying your friendly neighborhood mods.

Cthulhu's Librarian, I'm sorry for your friends and future family. I wish them the best during the rebuilding period.

For everyone, please keep this thread focused on the storm and its aftermath, not various insensitive comments or their rebuttals.

I'm with you, I think from looking at the updated projections that there's a very good chance it's coming right at us.

I live in Parkville (used to be in Towson), small world. We'll have to meet sometime. I throw gaming parties every few months. Email me at tortoise@comcast.net and I'll be sure to remind you of the next one (which may be in October).

Good luck weathering the storm.

Wow what a small world it is, cool to have someone close to me.

Thanks tortise for the good luck, I email you in a week or so, if that is okay. have a couple job interviews to do, finally. Gaming party now that would be way cool.

hope you are alright Tortise.

An on a schedule to finish Evil priests in LA also.

As to storm damage one maple tree broke in the center right onto the front lawn. Wow all the outside cats were in jitters in for days. various big branches from my big trees at least nothing in the house. I have power, but internet dialup has been way buggy, sometimes I can get on and sometimes not. I got way Lucky, my brother and wife no power or phone for 48 hours so far.

Hope everyone is coping and okay also. Thank(insert Diety of Choice) it was not worse.

Cool, I'll be looking for your email. Since I get a vitual TON of spam please mention the game party in the subject line if possible.

Things went well for me. No damage to car or residence. We definitely lucked out that it didn't come up the bay. Based on the info and pictures I've seen even for "only a class 2" storm, it tore the heck out of everything. 'd hate to think of how bad a class 5 hurricane would be.
