Dragon 374: Hybrid Characters Playtest

I don't have access to DDI. I'm wondering if anyone could post a brief (non-copyright-infringing) summary of what this is about? Is it something cool and new, is it an admission that core multiclassing doesn't work, is it worth subscribing just to see it, or what?

Thanks!

The hybrid character rules allow you to combine elements of two character classes into a whole. Effectively, you create a brand-new class from portions of two classes. These rules are experimental and are presented here for playtesting.

It's more like the original dual-class characters.... sort of gestalt-lite. Nothing that interests me to greatly on first scan, but that's all pretty subjective.

Well I think it is pretty cool, it may not be 'optimal' (read hugely overpowered in some combinations like 3E), but it gives you extra flex. You can make pretty much any archetype you fancy, although it may be rubbish... and the article says that (watch out for MAD, etc). But for optimisers there will be combo's that are 'broken', I guess.
One thing that annoys me is the feat which allows you to take another feature of one of your classes is basically a 'must have' feat, like expertise and the defence feats from PHB2. They should be just added to the classes as errata IMO.
And it not an admission that 'core multiclassing doesn't work'. ;) It does it is just not really multiclassing IMO
