Hybrid Talent Feat

Can you get the hybrid Talent Feat more than once? Without having to forgo a paragon path? I am making a human paladin/sorcerer, wanted to get the feat twice to have both dragon soul and be able to use paladin armor and shields. It looked normal, but when I went to purchase a heavy shield it is not showing me as proficient with it even though I have the feat selected and I chose the Paladin armor proficiency in the class section. What am I missing?

No you can't get Hybrid talent more than once because you can't get any feat more than once unless stated otherwise (for instance you can't pick up Toughness twice, but you could pick up skill training twice for two different skills because it specifically is an exception.) Obviously paragon hybrid is the exception.

Character builder has a bug, where if you select a feat at a higher level, then go back to the lower level and pick it again, it lets you do that, allowing you to end up with hybrid talent 2 or more times if you first pick it at level 2, then level 1, or the like.

Following that bug through, it actually only applies your first pick of hybrid talent, and ignores the rest. So if you picked Soul of the Sorcerer first, then paladin armor, it would ignore the armor, which is what you're seeing.

In short, you're allowed to pick hybrid talent only once, and if you go with just paladin armor proficiency, the CB will let you wear plate and shield.

Anyone have an opinion why a third option is not available at epic? Seems odd to me.

Because even giving up your Paragon path to get the 2nd one is very very powerful.

Yes: you can pick Hybrid Talent twice...

... but then your character's head explodes. No save. Roll up a new character.

You know, that does suggest an interesting idea for an epic destiny -- one whose 21st level feature is gaining hybrid talent for a 3rd time. I guess the rest of its features would be a lot like the Eternal Seeker. But this is not the House Rules forum. so I won't explore it further here....

So the only way to get the Hybrid Talent a 2nd time is to forgo your Paragon Path? Ouch.

You really can't select the Hybrid Talent Feat more than once? That's terrible. I already didn't like the hybrid classes, but my normal group wants to give them a shot by requiring everybody to play a hyrbid character. We thought that would be fun. Anyway, I assumed the feat worked exactly like the skill feat where each time you selected it, you'd just gain a one of the other benefits of it. I thought taking that multiple times would at least make the hybrid's playable but if you can only take the feat one time, i think that makes them a lot less appealing as a playable class.

It makes sure you never get all the features of the full class. Honestly, it's their tradeoff for having such versatile power selection.
