[QUOTE="KahlessNestor, post: 6993608, member: 6801311"] So several things here. I like the idea. If you're from a noble background you likely have access to education at the Academy. The Academy is in Lake Tasalda and managed to remain neutral during the war and was instrumental in brokering the peace. Think of it as West Point, MIT, CalTech, and all the Ivy League schools rolled into one. This is THE place you want to send your children for their education. If you can pay a hefty sum or scrounge up a patron, you can go. While it was founded as a wizarding school, it has grown to encompass all the disciplines, and now includes a College of War, College of the Divine, College of Magic, College of Nature, and College of Bards. Human or Tiefling might determine where you come from. Tieflings are increasingly common in Helveki as noble houses strive for the favor of Asmodeus and the Warlock Queen. In Helveki, being a tiefling wouldn't discredit you. On the contrary, it would show your house was favored. Though many houses keep them in secret and train them as assassins. You mentioned sensing a change in your connection to the divine. This seems to imply Paladine as your deity. In Helveki, that would be a problem, as the Church is illegal. We could work a backstory of your noble house being one that still secretly maintains the old faith. Then we would need to explain the tiefling aspect. Not impossible to do with some brainstorming. Asmodeus isn't above playing multiple angles, as it were. Tiefling will work. Your backstory will just be a bit more involved. I can give you others of the "new gods" if you would rather be from the Dawn Church than the Church of Paladine. Ioun the Crone would be good for a knowledge cleric.
