I *almost* feel guilty...

Whenever I start to think an encounter might be too tough on the party, I remind myself of all the other times I thought that and ended up watching my scaled down villain get smashed into tiny pieces while the party barely worked up a sweat.

Burninating the countryside! Burninating all the peasants!

bah!

any dragon who doesn't know that 1 of his 4 million scales are missing and dies from being shot by a slaying arrow = wuss.
:p

Ok, i'll admit that the whole "crushing a whole town in your death throes thing" is neat; but he's still the lowest on the totem poll of all dragon-kind in ME and shouldn't be emmulated by other dragons aspiring for greatness. hehe. ;)
This just shows the overall brokenness of called-shots ;)

If you wanna be a rat bastard, slap a Heal on the dragons list. Reds can also use cleric spells, so you should check those too. Especially because some Cleric spells are the same as Wizards, except at a lower level.

Divine Favor is also a good choice. And don't be stingy with the Protections from Elements. Cast against all 4 elements the dragon isn't normally immune to. Stoneskin isn't prolly a good idea, but maybe the dragon doesn't know that the whole party probably has +5 weapons?

Also remember following cleric spells: Death Ward, Spell Immunity, Freedom of Movement, Repulsion, Antilife shell.

Spells are good, but nothing without tactics. Torch everything, the party can hardly walk through fire (dispell good), and you can expect them to be able to fly, so don't unless you need to; one less spell for the half elf.

* Give the dragon an unexpected magical goodie. Accompany it with a legend to give players a hint that the dragon has a secret weapon. How about a Ring of Dispel Magic?

* Give the dragon some untrustworty allies. The dragon has told a troublesome band of gnolls that he'll attack a village. The gnolls attack after the dragon's first attack on the village. Then, while the adventurers are fighting off gnolls, the dragon attacks them all.

* The dragon's allies kidnap someone important first. Someone decided not to attend the play session? Problem solved! (;

* The dragon's bored and poses as a human: A fortune teller with a Deck of Many Things. Naturally, the dragon takes glee at the victim's misfortune, and, when confronted by the party, turns into a red dragon.

* Let someone else play the dragon. (;
