Its funny I never knew that there was a statue of the little mermaid until I was looking for this avatar on GOOGLE.

I have read the original story, and its not nearly as happy as the cheap disney rip off..
Regaurdless, I still loved the movie.

All tales by Hans Christian Andersen have a morale, in the little mermaid it is 'be careful what you wish for'.

Btw, I live about 600 yard from that statue.

Just to hi-jack this thread even further, have either of you read the original by Hans Christian Andersen?
Yes, I have read most of the works of Hans Christian Andersen. They're popular fairy tales here in Holland, so I was introduced to them fairly early on. Together with the stories of Grim they were my first introduction to fantasy fiction... So yes, I read it (loved it btw although the sad ending was a bit of a shock (it was the first time in a book that someone 'died' one me))... [/long winded post]

I have never read any other books by him,

Although i want to get a few to read to my children. I would love to live that close to such a pretty statue.. I live next to HyVee (a grocery store), and a mini-mall. Of couse, I live next to a field too! But thats Iowa for you!

I know we all feel it, that you post a thread and then it dies, your name showing as the last post made!
Don't feel bad, some days I feel like the king of thread killers. :D

Have any of you read some of the original stories, that grim and anderson wrote down in a less threatning manner so they could actually sell the damn things?

Little red riding hood is a very Gore filled story of werewolfs and death.

Another great fairy tale book is one I have writen by kids. Also very brutal and to the point. Very funny
