I don't think Exemplars of Evil is doing that hot

I looked through it and it wasnt that great looking. I was looking forward to villains I knew about or had heard about. I didnt see anyone I recognize. Of course there was never any evidence that it was going to contain known NPC's, not that I was able to find anyway. I was just hoping that there would be anyway.

I bought it (and MMV) last week while my FLGS was having a 20% off sale.

It's a pretty decent book, it's got some crunch, but mainly focuses on fluff for creating memorable villains. It also has several very detailed sample villains and mini-adventures using them. It's not quite as good as the 2E Complete Book of Villains, but it's close. :)

Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, for one. Luckily it's available as a PDF now.

I've had no problem finding this book in multiple brick-and-mortar stores for MSRP or less. By increased value, do you mean through eBay or sites like that?

For the most part. No brick-and-mortar stores I know of still carry it.

If this is true I advise you to buy them up quickly and put them on eBay where the cheapest copy I've seen is going for nearly $40 USD and most expensive is priced at $80 USD. ;)

I've also seen some 3rd party books going for good bank like Tomb of Abysthor. It seems to be mostly modules that are getting hiked like this...

Pawsplay-

Thanks for the heads-up on Half-Price books! There were not any of the newest books like Exemplars of Evil, and none were as low as $7 (!) but there were lots of new condition books there for 50% of cover. I bought up a bunch! There were lots of books that I passed at full price that looked good at half cover price, like Magic of Incarnum.

Anyboody who is not afraid of the edition wars might want to check out the stock. There were *lots* more D&D books than any other time I have gone there.

Half Price Books gets massive waves of D&D overstock about 2 or 3 times a year for half cover price or a little less. Exactly which books varies, but it's usually the stuff that's about a year or two old and nearing the end of its life cycle.

I saw a PH2 and MIC for $7 each a week ago at one store (items that had been sold to the store, not distributed through the chain), so perhaps certain stores or the chain as a whole have decided to drop sales prices on 3.5 stuff in the wake of the announcement.

I missed the point of this book. Given all the other "villains" books WOTC has put out (Lords of Darkness, BoVD, etc) this one just feels superfluous. That's on top of the impending 4E change.
