I guess she was only the SECOND-to-last unicorn...

Everybody go to the Internet Movie Database. Type in "Last Unicorn" to the search box.

You'll get two results. One for 1982, and one for...

2003.

It's listed as being in post-production with "CGI characters being animated." It's only got three members of the cast listed--the skull, Mommy Fortuna, and King Haggard--and all three are listed as the same actors--Rene Auberjonois, Angela Lansbury, and Christopher Lee--as they were in the original.

So I saw this, and I wondered. Are they animating new visuals but keeping the old sound and voices? Are they making a new CGI movie with new lines, but keeping some of the old actors? Are they filming a live-action movie with CGI special effects? What's going on here?

Then the "official site" link was pointed out to me, and I did so. It looks very much like they're actually making a live action Last Unicorn movie with CGI monsters and special effects! :) :D :)

I don't know about all of you, but I'm stoked. If done right, this could be just about the coolest thing to hit the screen in a long time. (Well, except for LotR, of course.) The Last Unicorn is a beautiful story, and the cartoon, while cool in many ways, simply never could do it justice. And I love the fact that they appear to keeping at least parts of the original voice cast. After all, Lee and Lansbury are actually physically now in the right shape to portray those characters.

Anyway, figured you'd all be interested. The official site is here, if you want to see more.

Holy sh*t!

I LOVED that movie. I must have been maybe 12 or 13 when I saw it (on video), and I can still remember being utterly enthralled. I even loved the schmaltzy theme song, that's how cool it was.

I also never knew the voice cast contained so many A-list names. No wonder they sounded so impressive! If they can reprise those people for the remake, I can't see how it can be anything but awesome.

Now that's cool!

I didn't even know "Odo" (From DS9) was a vocal artist in the last unicorn!?

A new version is a wonderful idea!

Bring it on!

Could be very cool, indeed, if handled well. I saw this one in the theatres, and always loved it. Rankin Bass, of course, felt the need to insert as many songs as humanly possible, but I didn't mind.

Considering what a spot-on job was done with the book the first time out (coming almost as close as 'Princess Bride' for good adaptions), it would be great to see this done again.

The big difference now is that I could take my daughter to see it with me. Joy! :)

Just one question, will America be doing the soundtrack again?;)

The animation was excellent in its style and feel, there are few fantasy films out that match it.

oh god, i wonder if the harpie is gonna look like it did in the first movie. I bet that harpie's pendulums inspired the 3e artist for the harpy MM illo.
