I suspect you can anticipate the questions already, but I will go first:

How useful is this book to the other classes? Does it have any setting material in it and if so for what era?

I can answer that:

S&V has tons and tons of new character options for every class except the Jedi. The Jedi get next to nothing.

And it's also chock full of setting material... just nothing era specific (except for a few NPCs; most of them are culled from the Rebellion era).

So better than Threats, then?

Depends if you're a GM or player. From GM's point of view I'd say Threats is slightly better with it's abundance of generic NPC's, but this has very nice mix of Character options and Setting fluff, that it's definetly better for players and comes close to Threats for GMs

I gave Threats a pass because of the low quality NPC stat blocks. It probably is still useful, though, at least, if you're not as picky as I am.

Oh :uhoh:... I thought it was pretty good for providing stock NPC's. Okay, there were some obvious mistakes but usually they weren't so big that they'd even reguire correcting, but then again, I'm pretty lenient GM :D. But yeah, S&V is way good book for both GM & players. Same quality as KOTOR I'd say.

Sorry for the delay in getting back. Yes, there are a number of new species described:

Blood Carver
Clawdite (e.g. Zam Wessel)
Falleen (e.g. Count Xizor)
Gand
Jawa
Ryn
Toydarian
Ubese

There are characteristics for each of them as well as suggested names, etc. to make them workable as PCs.
