I have so many movies, I'm thinking of throwing away all the cases . . .

I did this several years ago. Make sure you buy quality DVD cases and you probably shouldn't have a problem. Cross my fingers, I have not had any problems yet with things sticking, this is the first I've even heard of such a thing...so hopefully it never happens to mine. I do keep them all clean of grease and grime.

I have two 320 DVD Books...aka...each holds around 320 DVDs. The amount of boxes was simply overwhelming, so I tossed the boxes and put them in the DVD cases. What used to take shelves and shelves...now fit simply on the top of one shelf which is next to the TV. HUGE on saving space.

AMEN brother!

Okay, I'm convinced. Off to Future Shop this week to get the DVD books . . .

My own DVD collection is only around 260 titles and I still have room on my shelves for at least 150 more before I start getting worried. I'd have more but I've always been reasonably selective about what DVD's I decide to actually BUY. Still, I'd be another who would transfer all of them to some manner of high-capacity storage/playback widget and then simply crate up the lot and store them in the attic - just as I did for all my CD's when I bought an iPod. But, that may be years away yet before I decide to make that move.

Keep in mind that the value of a used DVD drops significantly without a cover. If you think you may ever want to sell some off, don't throw the covers away.

I've recently done this myself and I say go for it.

I had a huge DVD collection. Eventually things were taking up way too much room so I traded them in at the used record shop simply to reduce clutter. Most were worth $1 - $3, which seemed like a pittance.

Eventually I realized, why not keep the movie and just ditch the case? Now they just take up a fraction of the space they did. Just make sure to keep two or three empty cases if you want to loan out a movie to a friend or take one somewhere.

I did this with all my movies. I bought quality DVD book binders and I have never has an issue with things stinking.

I have only done this for movies but my TV boxed sets are getting crowed on the shelves and I am considering moving them to cases.

Also some of the boxed sets are made of crappy material and the discs don't sit in them snugly so I worry about a disc falling out and breaking wen I go to open it.
