I Have the Best Players in the World

I do. No, really, I do. You might think your players are better than mine, but you'd be wrong. None can be better than mine. Prove me wrong.

My players listen to me. When I said I'd had enough of D&D for a while and wanted to shop around for systems, they were right behind me. We plowed through Savage Worlds, Sufficiently Advanced and 4e D&D over the past few months and I might chuck in something else after this next campaign. And they'll go for it.

My players do amazing things for me. One of my players designed a complete Maptools framework for my game. Complete with automated character sheet, chat functions and die rollers. Now that's a groovy player.

My players dive straight into whatever I put in front of them. Like hungry rottweillers on a lame cat. I want to do poncy emo explorations? Fantastic. I want to do massive dungeon grinds? No problem. I wanna role play hot... errr... maybe we'll keep that one to ourselves no?

My players are the best players in the world. How about yours?

Mine are as well.

Of course, I had to make it that way...

In my area (within a few miles or so) I have 12 friends or so who play D&D. Three of us run our own campaigns with various combinations of people from this pool of 13 or so (when counting me).

When 4e came out, it got all of us back into D&D - most of us having not played since 3e was released! My first campaign contained the first 5 players who were ready to get in on a regular game. When that campaign ended (end of last year), I was faced with a dilemma... I now had 12 people who all wanted to be part of my next campaign, including 4 (at that point) who had just played in my last campaign (and were expecting to be a shoe-in for the next one).

So, I decided (since I had to narrow it down somehow) that i would hand pick my players catered to my preferences as a DM and based on who i thought would fit best the campaign I had been talking about for a little while at that point.

I did my best, but some feelings were hurt in the process initially (I did not include any of the players from my original campaign). I have no regrets though. This has been one of the best (if not THE best) campaigns I have ever run and for sure the best group of players I have had the pleasure running games for.

<edit> Those few players who were initially upset are fine now - no hard feelings - and are playing in other campaigns, including some that I play in myself </edit>

My players are the best in the world. Some quotes from recent games:

"I will teach you to be pickpockets of men"

"Scam is not heresy. Scam is sacrament."

(you see they've started their own religion)

"Rich... the other white meat".

(and are well on their way to half-accidentally fomenting a Communist revolution)

Also, I don't need to vet the rules before allowing something. Hell, I don't need to know the rules, I'm so sure they'll keep everything fair, balanced, and enjoyable for me and everyone else at the table.

And they put up with my puns!

My players wrote and performed a nine song musical about our last campaign. Their role-playing is superb, they always say thank you, they show up despite kids and busy lives, and they actively work to help make the game and the game world better. They make me have fun. My players are awesome!

... Wow, a player pissing contest, I never thought I'd see that.

So yeah, my 2 coppers:
My players buy me meals every week
My players are down for any game I run
My players buy my books once in a while
One of my players covered my rent when I was between jobs
3 of my players run their own games
All my players are friends as well as players
