I have to make a character and I'm totally out of ideas, ugh.

I have to make a character for a home-brewed campaign. It's an darksun style game, but very, very low power. The only race available to the players are humans. The 1st lvl has to be taken in an npc class, like Warrior, Expert, etc. It's an extremely low magic game, so no casters of any sort (so no rangers, since they get spells). Metal, like in Dark Sun, is super rare, life is cheap, and there are no amazing stats or psionics like in Dark Sun to keep you alive. The other players started out with stuff like potter and farmer. Since then one has become a fighter/scout type and the other has become a mechant/cleric (VERY rare and I don't want to add another caster if I can help it). There are casters, but they number in the "tens" for the entire world, and those that do exist, don't get "spells per day", it's spells per week, so casting is rare and judicious.

The biggest danger is the environment, dying of thirst, getting lost in the desert, being eaten by local creatures, etc. Slavers, raiders, etc add to the mix. Anyway, I've been DMing so far, but we're about to start round-robin the DM'ng, where another player will DM as well and I'll play when he does. The thing is, for some reason, I can't think of a character to play :(. Just wanted some suggestions. I'd like more then just what class to play, some ideas on personalities would be great :).

Wow. That sounds SUPER cool!

Without knownig what level you start at (from your post it sounds like 1 NPC level/1 PC level) I would take Expert (Hunter/Tracker) as your NPC class to get some Survival/Outdoor skills, then maybe switch to Rogue (more of an "Indiana Jones" than a "Jewel Thief" type). That's assuming, of course, that you don't want to play a spellcaster or a warrior. The Rogue will give you skill points to burn and enough fightin ability to hold your own.

For personality -and this is just IMHO- perhaps a character who became a Hunter/Tracker because the squalid conditions of his home village depressed him too much so stayed away as much as he could. The world is a grim place and he has learned the skills of self-reliance and survival. The rogue aspect could be greed or just a desire to gain enough wealth to "rise above" his meager beginnings.

That, and 2 copper, will buy you a tankard of ale. :)

I would play the Madmax character, fantasy style. Basically a survivor that will do anything to continue on. I would focus on some sort of fighter/thief type. Take lots of exotic weapon proficiencies and be an improvisor type of character. (high cha probably, with good bluff, intimidate, and diplomacy type skills. Let me know if you want a more detailed idea :). Someone who would bury himself in a mound of offal just to survive.

Hmm... I am looking for something with ALOT of personality. The quiet-brooding type isn't what I want. I want the opportunity to do alot of role-playing. Now... something like the gyro-captain... a surviverlist con-man that isn't actually very good at what he does... hmm...

Play a spaceman who fell from the stars and is searching for a way back home.

Of course the other PC's may just think you're delusional... and that's fine. Work up an entire backstory for yourself and, regardless of what the DM and the players say, you stick to it. As far as you are concerned you ARE a spaceman.

Not exactly sure where your ship crashed, last thing you remember was wandering through the desert for a long time...

<shrug> What can I say, I like to be distinct from the other players, and with only one race and two classes to choose from, your options are pretty limited.

Not only is that an awesome idea, but it would be a good lead in to a DragonStar Game down the road. ;)

Thanks.

I actually think it's cooler if the character's "delusion" is never proven one way or another.

I mean, you wouldn't want him to wander across the Statue of Liberty sticking part-way out of the sand or anything.

I would have to disagree that it's limited. What makes a character interesting and unique isn't race or class, but personality. I mean, no one here is an elf or a halfling, we're all lvl commoners or experts, but most of us are at least partly interesting :).
