My list is similar to Buttercup's, which doesn't sound all that out of the ordinary. Only thing I'd add is my PDA.

Righ. In the games I play, only about half the people have the PHB, and the rest doesn't have a single book. It's fine, we have no problem of passing around the PHB when there are references (level-ups, spells), and if someone needs something out of a another splatbook, the one with the splatbook will pass it around as well.

The only one who I'd say is really required to have books is the DM, since he has to know the rules better than the others (or at least good enough), and he needs all the core rules. Other players can have the PHB, but need not.

I'm the only one of five people who uses a book in our d20 Modern game. The rest of the guys just printed out the SRD or borrowed my copy.

I freaking love the SRD; its better than pancakes in the morning.

Did you use my reformatted one? It's easier to read and search than the WotC SRD.
