Ohhh - so true! But, for me, this is a generally "winter" thing. From November to March I drink A LOT of cider. Mmmm!
No reason the holiday spirit can't last from November to March! :)

Happy Holidays everybody,

I'm in total agreement with sharing the joy of the kids. I love to watch them getting excited especially when they get to choose what to get each other or my wife.

I like shopping for presents. Not the physical act of shopping, but trying to find a perfect gift for my wife, my kids and my parents. There is no better feeling than finding that gift that you know they will love.

And I love to be surprised by Christmas presents. I'll make a list for people who ask, but my favorite gifts are ones that were not from the list. Gifts that come from someone else's heart, rather than just their wallet.

yes, I have seen the opposite thread to this one and will not comment further as it would not be in the spirit of the season.

I love the atmosphere, the pomp, the splendor that this season brings.

Spending time with family and friends, baking cookies and other goodies, putting up a tree, decorating the house, giving gifts - its the best time of the year (reminds me of a song there...)

Let me preface this by saying that I'm an agnostic bordering on atheist and have an anti-clerical streak several yards wide.

Ditto.

In an "I love xyz" thread, saying "I hate xyz" is seen as rude, so my apologies in advance but ... I'm not a fan of Christmas.
*I don't like the travelling (since we don't have kids, we end up being the ones who travel. Not that I would enjoy a herd of visitors at our house either! :)).
*I don't mind seeing relatives but sometimes it all seems so forced. I enjoy myself more during non-holiday time visits -- fewer expectations I guess.
*I don't like going to church services for the sole purpose of not offending family with my absence.
*I don't like the disruption to my normal schedule.
*I don't like fighting the masses of shoppers.
*While I certainly don't hate getting gifts for others, I don't like the feeling that I haven't done a very good job of finding the right gift.

I do like getting a little time off of work. It does add a little "oomph" to a dreary time of year (even if it's not always a "fun" oomph). But I think of it mostly as a milestone, one that I am all too happy to pass.

I'm Ebenezer Grinch McScrooge von Humbug. :D

But then I am a guy who doesn't even want a birthday party for myself. I guess I'm not really a "celebrator." I also don't value tradition for its own sake.

The look on my nieces' and newphew's faces the next morning when they ran outside and saw the "reindeer tracks" that their father and I had made in the snow outside the house, along with the scattered oats (do reindeer even eat oats?) that "Santa" had fed the reindeer when he dashed inside.

Then the look on their faces when they ran back inside and saw the milk and cookies that they had left for Santa had been eaten.
