I need a character idea

Bard? Bah!

Half-Orc Barbarian-1/Cleric-8 of Pelor

I'm playing one now and they're a blast to play. It puts the "fun" back into "fundamentalism".

Heh. Altho not quite the same, I eventually want to try a Barbarian/Sorcerer/Eldritch Knight. Sounds like fun. :)

PS: Sorcerer was one thing I had in mind, when reading this as well. The Mystic Theurge is great at versatility but lacks in actual power. A Sorcerer is a perfect addition, as there is no other spellcaster present.

Altho the Druid is a bit more different, which might be interesting, adding a completely new angle to the party.

the hardest choice for the bard is in spell selection. you can also add flare or individualism/non generic with choice of perform...pick a unique instrument.

personally, i think another great option for this party is druid, sorcerer, or ranger.

I'd also go for a sorceror or druid. Especially druid, for that nice combat/healing/offensive magic/wildshaped scouting utility. Your party would thank you.

I would be inclined to go with a sorcerer as well. Mostly, because I find bards to have too many limitations and weaknesses.

A sorcerer in this party would shine. A sorcerer with spells like fly, and haste, and invisibility can really add a lot of power to a group. Nothing like an entire party of flying, invisible PCs to ruin a DMs day. :)

I played a Half Orc Barbarian/Cleric of Kord. Now that was an ale swilling hard nosed son of a *Shut yo mouth*

Different types of bard:-
A brooding story teller (Padeur the bard, if you've heard of him)
A highly political maneuverer (Thom Merilin?)
A romantic knight - wearing chain and receiting poems of folorn love
An acrobatic swash buckler with appropriate buffing spells
The weapons master (use 'weapon display' as your performance art) - think circus weapon acts
The Dread Pirate Roberts (he was an uber-character if ever there was - master of all trades!)

With bards you can get variety in four major ways IMO:-
Your combat style - bow, rapier, paired short swords, 2-hander. All make for a different take on the bard.
Your spell selection - focus on a school of magic, or thematic groups (eg all the stealth spells) or take a smattering of different types to maximise the flexibility of the class.
Your feats - this is true of all characters but even more so with a bard. Taking the mobility style combat feats, or ranged ones, or meta magic makes for a radically different bard. You can also take a set of feats to further boost your flexibility (such taking Run or Improved Unarmed Strike).
Your Performance Style - under 3.5 bards really need to specialise in one type of performance now. Singing, poems, story telling, playing an instrument (one of the weaker options really) will all vary the feel of your character.

I love bards :)

Dan

Thanks for the help guys! I ended up going with BG's idea of Half-Orc Barbarian/Cleric of Tempus. (It's in the Forgotten Realms, apparently.)
