I need help installing old dos-prompt games onto my Windows 98 machine.

I've got an older computer, and I wanted to play some of my old favorites. So I dug up the old disks and attempted to install them but it wont perform the operation. I forget what the message was exactly but it had something to do with the application being incorrect for the operation or somthing like that.

Anyone know a fool-proof way to install old DOS games onto a windows 98 machiene?
