I need to find a 5' by 5' piece of wood

Baltic Birch comes in five by five sheets and I think it is either half inch or nine sixteenths of an inch thick. It has no voids, and is a 7 layer laminated material. Not exactly cheap, but hard to beat.

Go to a Salvation Army and pick up something in used furniture that you can either use or disassemble for its parts. It might not be exactly what you want, but if cost matters...

You might be able to get MDF in that size, I got an 8' x 4' piece cut into two halves to make a gaming table, that I can set up in the garage for war gaming. So I have the option of a 4x4 or and 8x4 table. Saying that I think the 8x4 was the largest piece they had. Doesn't look pretty but it does the job, besides it's only in the garage.

When I saw the title, I wondered why someone needed to have a visual aid to show how much space a medium character took up.
I did too.

How about 25 1-square-foot tiles?

How about four 2.5' x 2.5' boards?
