I own a damaged copy of Races of Stone

I bought Races of Stone on Amazon for a really great deal...it was listed as brand new.

It took a month to get and when I got it, the book would have been in perfect condition if it wasn't for the inside of the spine being loose and the pages detaching from the threads. I contacted the seller twice, no response, filed a claim with Amazon, and I just got an email saying Amazon is refunding my money to my credit card. It says nothing about returning the book or anything.

So now I'm a few bucks richer and the proud owner of a flawed Races of Stone book. I'm really picky about the condition of my books, so I don't want to own a damaged copy. But since it's otherwise in great shape and basically free, would it be more of a hassle to attempt to get it fixed, or should I just sell it & hope someone would pay for a defective book? I don't know anything about fixing the inside of spines, it's not terribly damaged, the threaded binding just looks loose and when you open the book, you can see the holes on the paper where the threads run through. One page detached, it's not ripped or anything, it just pulled away from the threads.

I bought a copy of WEG's Star Wars like this once for five dollars at a game store. Some duct tape on the insides of the covers and it solved the problems nicely. And I was never worried about damaging the book since it was already damaged as it was.

my Magic Incarnum came damaged.

it is a sad fact of the new materials being used by Whizzers of the Cost, a Hasbeen subsidiary.

A book binder (if you can find one) can fix it. I submit if you spent the money, spend it again and get a copy you're happy with; I'm the same way, I'm extremely anal about the condition of my books (as in "Sure, you can look at it, but wash your hands first") and I'm fortunate - I have a Sp. Ed. PHB so I can beat the crap out of my regular copy.

You can prolly get a few bucks for it; you might also consider keeping it on hand as a loaner and using the duct-tape trick. Then you'll have a "bashable" copy and a clean copy. Something similar happened to me with my copy of Libris Mortis; I wound up getting a new one, never returning my old one... and giving the new one it to my best friend, who hadn't picked it up yet. Kept the old one for myself. I was much happier that way.

It all depends if you wish to purchase a new copy of the book. I've used rubber cement to repair such problems. Just use it sparingly and use a cheap disposable brush to apply it. After you have the glue applied to the edge of the pages and inside of the spine, put a heavy book or something with a heavy, even weight on it. Leave it alone for a couple days in a dry space and it should be almost good as new.

Other friends of mine have used photo mounting adhesive, duct tape, and hot glue.

Getting it re-sown is not worth the cost.

Stiggybaby is going out of business and they have races of stone for 11.48 if you aren't happy with the current book. I understand that you might not be happy with the book, but it was free, so I would just deal with it.
