I really don't like the Compendium links in articles.

It doesn't bother me at all. I can't read the Wall of Powers anyway. So I get a quick description (and honestly, for most of them I just checked to see how many old school names they kept).

If I actually want to understand powers (and this goes for any class in 4e), I build a character.

It's disappointing to me. I like to email myself articles on occasion and read them while I'm waiting for queries to run at work. I can't do that with a Compendium link, since the site is blocked.

While disappointing, I understand the reason for it. Considering how easily/quickly the pdfs get pirated ... making it harder for the pirates to get to the PH3 preview (which was something they were advertising as a selling feature) is a smart business move. Anyone that can get the articles can get the DDI ... and for offline use there is always the character builder once you download the update. It's hard to see everything in book form, but I've been finding it easier to evaluate my options when looking at it in the character builder anyway. I had read all the powers in the builder before the article ... so I was reading the article mostly for commentary anyway.

The irony is that if I had waited until someone had pirated the article, I would have had an easier time printing out a hard copy for myself. Instead I have to copy/paste from multiple sources just to have a version I can easily print out that contains the class and its powers.

Doesn't bother me even a little bit. I scan the articles when they come out and then wait for the crunchy bits to be put into the compendium/builder.

Points to WotC for making the pirates irritated. :) *

*Disclaimer: Not calling any of you pirates. Laughing at the pirates being irritated at this...

While I understand you are not calling me a pirate even though I do fall amongst the people that are irritated by this change, that doesn't change my feeling that you are belittling any concerns I may have over the changes as irrelevant as long as pirates are getting irritated as well.

How is he belittling non-pirates that are irritated by this change? He didn't comment one way or the other on non-pirates who are irritated by the change. Does he have to address your irritation in his post in order to respond to the thread in general to make sure you don't get offended?

Not responding to your concerns at all, Kez. From my point of view, it's not even a slight irritation. That's not to say it wouldn't be for someone else, just that it doesn't bother me, and that I can imagine those pirating these documents got significantly more cranky at WotC after seeing that.

Didn't mean to offend, just stated my opinion :).

That might possibly be true, but frankly I doubt this would do more than slow initial pirates up slightly (and then people using pirated material get hold of it as quickly as before) - and in the mean time it irritates legitimate users.

Seems like a lose-lose to me. :(

Yep someone posted how to embed it in HTML above.
