I think my wizard is going to be poor

I would second AuraSeer's comment, get a Boccob's Blessed Book. Although I think that it still costs 100 gp to scribe a spell into it. Still quite a saving.

Learn craft woundrous and the secret page spell and pop one out whenever you need a new one for all of 4,250 gp and 380 xp. So long as you scribe spells of level 3 or higher into it, you will come out ahead. It is quite handy for a higher level wizard to make a back-up spell book to leave at home, or a traveling spell book so as to not risk his entire collection while adventuring.

Or you could take the best feat ever for wizards, spellbook mastery. It allows you to automatically learn your intel modifier # of spells at each level rather than 2(example-if your intel is 18 you would get 4 spells per level). I'm pretty sure that you can take at second or third level. I believe it's in either Path of Magic or Tome and Blood.

It's certainly not in Tome & Blood. Sounds way too good for a non-chain feat.

I'm pretty sure that scribing to the Boccob's Blessed Book doesn't cost anything. I know this has been addressed somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

"Spell Mastery" is a wizard inly feat from th PHB (see pg. 54). It allows you to pick a number of spells equal to your Int mod, and then you don't need a book for them.

I do'nt rad it as you learn more spells, just that the ones you do master, you don't have to have a book for.

I'm getting amajor case of deja vu with this thread, but when I look at the dates of the posts, I know I didn't read this thread last night or this morning.

this is the only game mechanic information about boccob's blessed book:

the pages...freely accept spells scribed upon them, and any such book can contain up to 45 spells of any level. the book is thus highly prized by wizards as a spellbook.

please help me out. i can't figure out where it states that spells can be scribed freely into it?

:)

oops, sorry, yep it's 100gp per page not 200
the spellbook mastery is in path of magic. thanks for pointing it out to me :D

It sounds to me that it still costs to put spells in the book, but it can hold a lot more spells, a LOT more than a normal spellbook.

Getting the spells with no inscribe cost would be a BIG boon, and I think they would be much more explicit about it

I don't have a problem with the cost. They needed a mechanic to keep wizards from having access to every spell known. you kill a couple of npc wizards, and presto, 2e/1e, you have almost all the spells, and can use them. Now the cost slows you down. (as does the space/weight issue) makes you pick and choose, I like that.
