I was "booed" for even showing the 4e Core books

So, what else did you do with charactersheets to a game you didn't want to play anymore?

Excused myself from the game politely during some kind of break in the action ("Sorry guys, but I'm just not having fun with this game."), and threw it away instead of standing up in the middle of the game and dramatically tearing it up.

I'd bury them next to my dice that were executed for rolling poorly!;):p

Nothing. By the time the next session rolled around, the fit of pique had ended and I rejoined the group.

On the issue of "childish" behavior, it's funny to me how quickly some people give WotC latitude with poop jokes and thinly veiled ribbing of the fans of both editions in the Red Dragon thread(which honestly didn't bother me at all)...but some fans booing an edition, or a player ripping his sheet up in "protest" of an edition is "childish"...kettle here's pot, pot here's kettle.
I think the point in the other thread is that WotC's humour is not childish, not that WotC is allowed to do things players are not.

Uhmm...yeah, so poop jokes are not childish and yet ripping up a character sheet is childish...one more time, kettle here's pot, pot here's kettle.

I don't think either one is any more or less "childish" than the other, it's a purely perception thing...but I wouldn't defend against poop jokes being called childish and then turn around and say someone is childish for ripping their sheet up for a game they don't like.

Depends on the context of each, of course. But in this case (from what I know about the situation), yes it seems that way.

I guess the question is: what was the point of tearing up the character sheet? It might have been in jest, sure. But if not, why not just excuse oneself from the game? Why throw a fit? It's just a game.

So anyone who shows public displeasure...is "childish"? I mean, IMO, "childish" or rude would have been crumpling up the sheet, throwing it across the table at the DM and storming out...or going into a yelling match about how the game sucks with the DM.

The player showed his definite displeasure for the game (which it seems from the post most of the players were feeling to some extent), and that was the end of it. For all you know it could have been in a half-joking, but "this is how I really feel" manner so there wouldn't be the back and forth of an argument.

What exactly do you know about the situaton? I didn't read anywhere he threw a "fit" and it seems majority to all of the group wasn't feeling the game, since last time I checked...feeling lukewarm does not translate to having fun.

I mean if were playing the conjecture game, maybe the DM kept going with this 4e game, even though he realized his players weren't having fun...and one player decided he needed to give a blatant sign that this was the case, without getting into an actual argument with the DM. I agree it is just a game...but I don't think people want to willingly waste four or more hours on something that isn't fun to them, if they don't have to.
