In the aftermath of the death of Smaug the Dreadful; Orcs, Wild Wolves, Men, Dwarves and Elves clashed under a sky darkened by giant bats, their hatred fueled by ancient quarrels. Many deeds of renown were done that day, with many heroes prevailing while others fell, but in the end delivering a sweeping victory for the Free Peoples of the North.</p><p> </p><p>A new alliance was born from the aftermath of that battle, now remembered as the Battle of Five Armies. In fact, if it hadn’t been for the threat of Bolg’s invading host, rallying the Free Peoples under a single banner, the long years of petty misunderstandings would have flared into open warfare. The spirits of Elves, Men and Dwarves were embittered and made miserable by the growing darkness of <strong>Mirkwood</strong> and the ever-present menace of the great Dragon of Erebor.</p><p> </p><p>Each community had become suspicious of its neighbours and limited their dealings to meagre trades. When the din of battle subsided, the surviving Free Peoples looked upon each other with an open heart once again.</p><p> </p><p>With the rising of the sun this morn, a pair of dusty wanders were making their way along a wide trail that ran the shores of <strong>Long Lake</strong>. The early morning sun reflected brightly off its waters and the ruins of <strong>Lake Town</strong> were just coming into view. Farther out the rib bones of the dreaded great dragon could be seen pocking out of the still water. A shiver, like a freezing wind blowing down from the north, ran down the pair spines as the sight for the <em>dread</em> of Erebor was not so easily dispensed, even in death! </p><p></p><p>The pair were just returning towards <strong>Dale</strong> after a short incursion to the edge of <strong>Mirkwood</strong> a few days past. As the approached a small rise another traveler appeared on the road ahead of them. Growing closer to each other the pair recognized the traveler as a elf, as the elf noticed the pair of humans.</p><p> </p><p>The group hailed greetings to each other and as was custom in these lighter days of hope, stopped to introduce themselves to each other and mayhaps exchange any news.</p><p> </p><p>[gm]So you all met on the road. Please go ahead and introduce yourself to each other and describe what you look like. You can make up reasons for being out on the road.
