[IC] For the Children, Chapter 1

Dash Eventide

Dash, gets to his feat and quickly brushes off his robes. He then extends a hand, and grinning almost ear to ear, walks over to the group.

"Hello, all! I'm, Dash! It is an honor to meet more of this fine cities folk. I am afraid that am alone, and have no children."

Dash offers his hand to each of the people.

"Say would one of you fine people know where i could, perhaps find an inn, I seem to be in need of lodging."

Akunin:
one of the priests of Lathander, a common sight in this city, standing over him...The man extends a hand to the monk

Sodarin looks up at him casually, and then back down. he is biting a twig in his mouth and his words are a little slurred.

"What's past is gone, no use dwelling on it. All I am doing now is making sure that the children don't get hurt..."

he tips his hat and closes his eyes- as if falling asleep. As the priest stands there, he is completely still, and quiet, but as the priest starts to walk away, Sodarin mumbles:

"what do you know of the children? and why do they keep returning, despite the way this town treats them? And why take it upon yourself to protect them priest?"

sodarin does a sense motive check (+5)

sodarin brushes off the dirt on his clothes and gets to his feet.

"Name's Thorn. been sitting here waiting for something to happen for days, and I feel that this is it.... The gods have a divine path planned for us all- who am i to deny them that....?"

he bends over and picks up his bedroll and belongings, as well as a couple of copper pieces scattered about the ground. All this time,. he has not once made eye contact, or look up, however, he knows exactly where the priest is, and his body posture, and gestures.

he finally looks at the priest and asks, "where are we off to?"

Edit-
OOC: keep in mind that sodarin just told the priest that his name was THORN. he is doing this for two reasons, he does fully trust the priest, and also, he is working his way to ghostwalker (S&F)- but that is a ways away- he prolly won't get started on that path unitl after a coule of adv- so he doesnt want anyone to know his name...
OOC:

also, when we do skill checks, do you want us to roll? or are you doing that?

Shade

[OOC:

I think I'm just going to stick with this user name. To much trouble swapping back an forth.

Also, Akunin, my plan was to just check the place out for easy roof access and maybe come back tonight. In the meantime, I had planned to go inside. Thats ok though, I'll just take it up where you left off. ;)

Shade knelt by the window and continued to listen until both men left the room. Listen +5

After they leave...

From the small pack he wore beneath his cloak he pulled a small leather roll. He quetly unlaced it and spread the roll out to reveal a finely crafted set of thieves' tools. He quickly went to work on the window [Open Lock +6, Take 20]. Careful not to leave signs of his passage, he slipped quietly into the room. He locked the door and began looking it over for anything of value or interest.

Move Silently +9, Search +7, Spot +8 (Take 20) He listens for anyone coming (Listen +5) and if he hears anyone, he will unlock the door and slip under the bed if he can fit. He checks to see if he can ahead of time. Of note, he checks between matresses and goes through all chests and drawers. He takes care to put everything back as he found it.

(OOC Just a quick note - you don't need to worry about putting skill check modifiers in posts - I'm going off the stats on the character sheets you submitted, so I can look them up as they come. Regarding rolls - I'll be doing the various rolls, and posting results, with numerical values when appropriate.)

(Ashrem - sorry for the confusion. In reading your post, it sounded as if your PC was planning on going through with the act, rather than just finding out where the guy was. Also - while one of the men has left the room, the other, who you assume to be your mark, did not, and is lying on the bed talking to himself. If you want to wait on the roof, you may be spotted, but you can make alterations to your post in the meantime, if you like. I'm going to try to update this afternoon.)

OOC: finally!
my internet connection is back up - i wrote this out last night, but couldn't post...
This continues from the updated background story in the Rogue's Gallery thread (i read a crudload about the areas Killain had to travel thru to get from The Vast in the east to the Coast on the west) :

After Killian Maxwell woke up in Beregost, after more traveling west from his homeland in The Vast, he had breakfast in the inn and proceeded to take in the sights of the town.
After enjoying the newness of the city, and taking stock of the environment (dangerous areas, fun nightlife, trade markets, etc) for a few days, Killian purchased a high quality bow that he can use to take advantage of his above-average strength when hunting or fighting.

He allowed himself a moment of reflection after the purchase, ruminating that if he'd stayed at home, like some others in his family, he proabably would not have even seen such a fine weapon, much less owned one.

Ahhhh.... the road has been a constant companion the last few years for the son of Keegan Maxwell. Born to such a large farming family that he'd sometimes accidentally be called by the family dog's name, Killian now is an experienced fighter and world-traveler.

His journeys have brought him close to his supposed destination: a desire (more like an excuse to leave home) to see the Coastlands, and the mighty Sea of Swords.
His toils have brought him this far ; equipped, and with ample coin, he ponders his actions before he sets off west to Candle Keep.

He spends the night celebrating moderately in the town's bar.
He has a good time, swapping tales and drinks with the locals, before turning in to bed early in the morning.

When Killian wakes up in the early afternoon, he prepares to go downstairs when he realises his purse is gone!

Infuriated and hurt by the crime, Killian exits the inn with the plan to get a job - or SOME way to get living-money, or somehow find the guy who ripped him off!

This priest knows a lot. he either must be following me around, or he is following the guidance of a greater force. In any case, he knows a lot, and that puts me at a slight disadvantage considering I jknow nothing of him, and his priesthood. i will follow along, for now...

Ok. putting the ghostwalker aside for now (i dont think we will ever get that far...) Sodarin still wants to be known as Thorn for now.

and I think it would be easiest to refer to the char as the player's name. that way, we don't have to refer to what someone said about someone else doing something......

OOC: Dang. Of all the people to have a reason to hate thieves, it would be the big guy with the chain. :(

Hi! My name is Shade, but you can call me Dead-Elf-Walking.
:D

OOC: Wow, it must be a long way to the temple if it takes this long to get there... Just kidding

"So sir, I am new in town (Marina thinks: newer then you could ever guess) and I don't know anything about it."

OOC: "Dead Elf Walking" LOL
Is there an Academy Award nom in your future? :)

Naaa, Killian won't ASSUME it's you, but he's sure to keep an eye on ya if he finds out yer sneaky or like to steal.

But he's been around the block before - he'd keep an eye on the whole lot of y'all anyway! :)

I just had to find an In-Character way to explain why he would have travelled halfway across Faerun and end up with no money (since he's maxed out, AFAIK on starting $$$).

And Killian's not THAT huge... just skilled. ;)
I'm still looking for a pic of a rough-and-tumble spiked-chain fighter to represent him.

And I'm not going to be changing identities to post as Killian - way too much time and trouble. :(

Hope Akunin posts before it gets much later on Friday night - didn't he say he wouldn't post Friday nights?

Maybe I could show up at his place he's hanging out tonight to get the update... LOL (we both live in Sacramento, CA if you guys didn't notice...
small world, eh?)
