(IC) Quickleaf's Rime of the Frostmaiden

Jacks whispers to Spider-Aric, “We promised our frosty friends some fresh food, and a promise is a promise! I bet they’d like some fresh kobold.”

Spider-Arik listens to Jack. He remains still. Chills go down his spider hairs on his legs and torso at the thought of simply killing sentient creatures for food. He remains motionless. He'll support his companions, but he won't strike the kobolds.

Zeth absently rubs his hands together to keep them warm. He'll need nimble fingers for spellcasting.

"We might be able to bluff our way past the cultists as long as there aren't too many to fight if things go wrong. I don't see why they're our problem, this place belongs to the dwarves."

OOC: So, just to be clear, we need to go up to the surface, right? And the ghost said something about cultists up there?

"Janth, how many cultists are there? We need to get to the surface."

While waiting for the ghost to answer he motions with now loaded crossbow to the kobolds and speaks in Undercommon "Pick up that carrion and throw it over to the toads. If you miss, you'll be the food."
The two kobolds hasten to do Lumrolur's bidding, picking up the body of the fallen kobold and pitching it down the shaft. Tossing bodies in this way seems to be second nature to them, and after what they've just seen happen with the ghost, they're not about to question the deep gnome's resolve.

Down below in the murk, you can hear the contented munching and crunching of the two ice toads.

The spirit riding inside Lumrolur's mind whispers: "Six. Six like the arms of a snowflake. Their leader Wahorna is dangerous as only fanatics can be – she is the great great granddaughter of Agorwal, once alderman of Termalaine who founded these mines. Wahorna travels into town during the day, often taking one or two followers with her."

GM: In this case, the ghost's voice emanates from Lumrolur without him needing to speak – so everyone can hear it. However, in the future, @Neurotic you can control this, e.g. just having the ghost Janth speak inside your mind telepathically.

Alma's brows raise as the voice echoes out. Interesting. She files that away for later. "She travels into town. To Termalaine? Would it be worth trying to gain her assistance in reaching it? Zeth suggested bluffing our way past them, but perhaps we could travel with them. Unless you see no point."

"Seeing as she's dangerous, let's not travel with them just yet. Instead, let's head into Termalaine ourselves, and learn more about the fanatics before approaching them. They might even have played a role in the evil deeds plaguing this area. Now, let's go, we've got a murderer to track down!"

Jack encourages the party to maintain a wary and stealthy approach as they move from the mines into town. He hopes that their shortcut through the underground passages has allowed them to catch up with the potential murder suspect.

Lumrolur takes the point moving forward silently, remaining in the range of the group darkvision, intentionally revealing himself and pointing before disappearing again. His superior darkvision gives him minor advantage in these tunnels.
