(IC) Quickleaf's Rime of the Frostmaiden

Russet hold the sled, his feet braced against Corse's pitons. The rumble of snow gets closer and closer, impossibly loud. The first wave hits him, and he falters under the impossible force. The sled crashes down on everyone - and Russet's grip on the sled falters. If he can't hold on they will surely be swept away down the mountain. Alma's magic begins to take effect, and with a shout of effort he and Aric push the sled up and hold it against the onslaught of snow and debris

GM POST

Roaring snow pummels down all around you, cracks in the underside of the sled allowing little drifts of snow into your momentary sanctuary. The ground rumbles violently beneath your feet, finding purchase on pitons, stone, each other – anything to stay within the safety of the sled. Magical shimmers echo along the left side of the sled as a stone ricochets off Logrim's shield. Fire from Zeth and Corse's fingertips becomes steam and a slurry of ice water running around the sled.

Lumrolur and Jack can see the sled get swallowed by the torrential snow until only one of its runners is faintly visible above the snowpack.

In just moments, the rumbling echoes down the mountain below you. Just like that, all is quiet and the avalanche has stopped. The fur from Aric's bear-form brushes up against your faces, the space beneath the sled suddenly claustrophobic and dark, enclosed in a silent tomb of snow.

Alma has braced herself against Russett and the sled. As the roar of the snow dies down and the world stops shaking, she takes a second to collect herself. White steam clouding her vision as she breathes. She looks around slowly, trying to count heads in the dark. ''Is everyone okay?''

"Death. Misery. Pain. Music to my ears!"
"Quiet!"
Lumrolur shakes his head at the intrusive thought and glides forward already taking out snow shovel to try and free those trapped under the snow.

"Whoo..." says Corse, relieved as she raises her head from the cover of snow. She stands and runs along the line, ensuring pitons and clamps are in place and no one is hurt.

Zeth aggressively shakes snow off himself before using his hands to remove the rest.

"I hate this place."

He wasn't egotistical enough to believe Auril was after him specifically, but that wouldn't stop him from holding a grudge. At the very least the rest of the party had proved themselves capable enough and able to work together. Once this was over he'd simply need to retrieve the ship's treasure, figure out a way to get it back to real civilization, and decide his next move next to a roaring fire with a glass of wine in his hand.

Finding your footing amidst the chunks of ice, stone, and trail washed out by snow, Lumrolur finds the sled runner. It takes a solid two minutes of digging until you reveal the left side of the sled.

The air gets stuffy and incredibly humid for those of you trapped under the sled, until you hear the scraping of metal against the side. A few moments later and a small hole appears in the snow near Logrim, and a moment after that you can see Lumrolur tirelessly digging away, allowing most of you enough space to either crawl up out of the snow.

Boy quickly scrambles up through the hole, not needing to be told twice and eager to be far from the bear!

Aric, as a bear, can wait till the rest have slipped out to brute force his way through the small hole, uplifting the sled, and causing the hollow cavity beneath it to flood with snow.

GM: @Kobold Stew @VLAD the Destroyer Your group lost 3 pitons in the avalanche, but the rope is still in place, though Lumrolur and Jack – who cut their ropes to escape – will need to be roped back on to the rest of the group.

OOC: let’s assume that Aric stopped concentrating on Entangle after the first roll call, because otherwise folks would have been stuck!

And the rope for Aric Bear is at its feet (shape change gives two options: absorb or drop)

In the aftermath of the avalanche, amidst the crunching and grating noises as his companions begin to emerge, Jack Everfrost flutters his iridescent wings in a pattern reminiscent of a mesmerizing winter waltz. The glow from his wings casts prismatic colors onto the snow as he eyes the scene with concern. "Now, now, none of this dreadful moping," he declares in a voice that rings out, small but vibrant, like a silver bell. Seeing his friends trapped beneath the snow pulls at Jack’s heartstrings, but he puts on a friendly grin. "We're not about to let a little bit of snow get us down, are we?"

A burst of blue energy sparks from Jack’s fingertips, hovering before him. A small cloud of shimmering snowflake patterns flies across the snow, dancing in the air with an almost musical, twinkling rhythm, and forms an ethereal hand shape, no bigger than Jack’s own. "Please allow me to lend a hand... or rather, a Mage Hand," he says with a playful smirk. With the finesse of a master bard strumming a lute, Jack directs the magical hand of snowflakes down towards the opening. It extends to those still half-buried in the snow, offering a helping lift with a surprisingly firm grasp. One by one, he helps to pull companions free from the blanket of cold, ensuring each is safe before moving onto the next, and finally his magical hand flies over to Boy to give an enthusiastic scratch behind the dog’s ears.

"Everyone in one piece?" he asked, his voice carrying a genuine note of worry as he floated around, checking on each member of the party. "No frostbitten noses or toes, I hope?"

Once each of the companions are hauled to safety, Jack's expression grows pensive. "I heard something peculiar up the mountain just before the snow began tumbling down," he muses, his delicate eyebrows knitting together. "Couldn't see what it was, though. Might be worth keeping our eyes peeled and ears open, just in case."
