[IC] Sundered Skies (Closed)

Cave of the Seven Suns; Main Chamber

Derin casts Mage Armor on Felix (who identifies is as such).

Elvar nods and says "Elvar". He watches as both Felix and Derin discuss matters. When the discussion ends he nods. The elf, still with bow in hand, states "Stay here. I will be right back to let you know what we are against." and he pads off into the darkness, vanishing from your sight and hearing.

[OOC:Slight wait while Elvar goes off and returns. Feel free for more conversation.]

Felix nods and watches as Elvar slowly walks away. "Quite considerate of him, scouting alone like that." With a bemused expression, Felix examines his hand, feeling the slight tingle of the abjuration. "That wasn't necessary. I would've managed just fine with my armor. But thank you nonetheless."

Felix lowers his mace onto the ground, lowering the haft to the floor and carefully holding the head. Half concentrating, he examines the mace's spikes for damage. "Derin, you say. So, Derin... you didn't come in here with a plan. I really can't complain, I have no idea what I'm doing here either. I was just sort of thrusted in, you know." Finding nothing wrong with the spikes, Felix turns the mace around and begins to examine the axe head. "You should consider yourself lucky that you at least have somebody to back you up. Lucky, or smart. I was neither when I walked in here." Felix ceases to examine the weapon and looks up at Derin. "Still, luck can change. I now have backup, and you now have another blade. It's funny how fortune changes." He resumes examining the axe. His brow furrows, and he lowers his voice. "Damn. I must've chipped it earlier. It'll have to wait, I'll smooth it out later."

Finished with his inspection, Felix stands up and hefts the weapon over his shoulder. "So, what drew you to these so-called Hallowed Grounds? Whatever you were looking for, short of slow death or eternal darkness, you're bound to be disappointed. But, whatever your reasons were or are, I'm interested." Felix's hollow, yellow eyes fix on Derin, and his eyes seem to grow distant as he begins to think to himself. "We're all in it together now, aren't we, Derin? We're all in Fortune's hands now. Some of us are on Her fingers, others in Her fists." Felix's focus returns to Derin and his eyes snap back into focus. He gives a faint smile.

"We began our journey under the cover of night, hoping to make it to Kracen before any maligned forces dirupted out paths. We took a path well known to Elvar, but soo it became apparent that we sacrificed safety for familarity. The path was scattered with the godless undead. As we began our track onward into the dark, I caught sight of a faint glimmering off in the distance." Derin pauses for a moment, a bit uneasy, he continues on. "There was this feeling... this, pull I felt coming from the doorway. I discussed it with Elvar and it seemed that it would make no difference whether we braved the groupings of walkers or investigated the glowing light that lead us into this 'temple' as it seems. As far as having a plan, well, we never had time to come up with one." shrugs "Coming in here was a chance we took, and as I said to Elvar, it seemed to be the lesser of two possible evils." Derin slowly reaches for his pack and digs around a bit, readying for any possible combat, but stops with a look of disapproval across his face. "After finding the entrance we traveled down a long corridor covered from ceilling to floor in ornate carvings, chronicalling an ancient struggle between the Elder gods and the dragonlings." Derin, now fixing a quizzical gaze unto Felix, and his pernicious looking weapon. "...How exactly did you get in here?"

Felix sighs, and stares off into the darkened chamber, knowing that there is nothing there to see. "Ironic. Very ironic. It would seem that none of us really want to be here, there is simply somewhere else that we don't wish to be even more. Fate has a sense of humor, after all." Felix pauses for a moment, considering if he should tell the truth to Derin. He turns it over in his head for a second, and decides. "It's for the best. Trust is important." Felix continues to keep his gaze off of Derin and on the darkness, and recounts his tale.

"There isn't much to tell, really. I was traveling with a sorcerer by the name of Maya. She was a pleasant person, very friendly and easy to get along with. We were both on our way to Kracen, as well. We met at a crossroads, she suggested that there was safety in numbers, and we departed for Kracen." Felix takes a deep breath, trying to control the unpleasant images entering his mind. "We traveled together for a few days, told a few stories, and made good progress. We decided that it would probably be safer to stick to high ground, to avoid the possibility of running into anything, dead or otherwise. We were traveling along a ridge, when suddenly, a small portion of it broke away." "Small, but large enough," Felix thought. "She slipped. I threw out my hand to try to catch her, and I fell, as well. We began to tumble down the side of the cliff. She quickly invoked a spell to slow our fall, and it worked. Instead of falling to our death, we fell right in front of a group of walkers." Felix gives a faint shudder. "We saw the door. She opened it. I entered. She didn't. Not in time, anyway. They dragged..." Felix chokes on the word, and stops. He gives a faint whisper. "I tried..." His eyes harden, and Felix's cold gaze meets Derin's eyes again, and his voice becomes flat. "I'd rather not talk about it anymore." "My luck is my own business," he thought grimly to himself.

Cave of the Seveon Suns, Main Chamber; MA

Elvar returns into view as a sliver of light highlights his upper left chest and you can see the shadowy outline of his face in the darkness. He looks somewhat confused, concerned, and on edge at the same time. "I am not sure what is over there. They are not so large - a little shorter that us, but I am not sure if it is even of this plane. There are like 10 or so of these creatures. They appear to be morphous scaley piles of flesh with a toothy maw and wicked looking claws. They are just standing, scattered about beyond this globe looking statue thingy in the center of the room. There also seems to be a glowing portal or something which is emitting the light towards the back and center of the chamber. There are statues all along both walls and columns as well."

[OOC Felix:
His somewhat tenuous description leads you to believe that these creatures are perhaps Lemure, which would be weak, mindless extraplanar fiends which are generally herded by other fiendish creatures for various uses. They most likely have immunites to mortal weapons and magics.

and the portal thingy just might a portal to their plane.

"I'm not very good at sneaking around what with being cursed with a dead stump of a leg., but I'm afraid an ambush of somesort would be the best chance we have at taking these creatures, due to their numbers." Derin shruggs and goes back to thinking a bit more. "Our best bet would be to utilize what we've been given, the element of suprise. If we could somehow plan an attack from every angle possible, we'd be able to decimate their numbers fairly quickly I'd say. But perhaps it would be better if we all got a look, to see if we could come to a better conclusion on what would be the best means of attack."

Elvar whispers "I could escort us to the near side of the globe statue thingy and hopefully get you two into position without incident and then I could attempt to get to the far side of the statue thingy; then you two could join combat once I initiate the attack?"

"I have no complaints with that plan of attack, in fact, I believe it is probably the best under these circumstances." He looks at Felix. "Would you agree?"

Felix nods. "It seems to be the only plausible course of action. These beasts will find us sooner or later in here, and we have no way to go but forward. My mace is in your service." He raises his mask, a grim determination dully shining through his eyes. "Be forewarned. These beasts you describe sound like Lemures. In such large numbers, they won't fall easily, and their master may lurk nearby. Keep your guard up and watch your surroundings." Felix glances into the darkness, scanning for any movement. "And I would advise against touching the portal. No sense in taking unnecessary risks. I charge at your word."

Elvar nods and whispers "Ok, follow me. Stay close and keep that light down as much as possible."

Elvar leads both of you forward and close to the statue/globe thing in the center of the chamber and along the right edge of it. You stop probably 30' later as you reach the edge of the statue thingy to where you see the far side of it. The entirety of the glowing entity is now completely visible before you.

In what you think to be the center of the chamber you see what appears to be an area of space that is outlined in a softly glowing crimson. The irregularly shaped outline is vaguely about 5' x 3' and whose irregular edges seem to waver slightly and, now that you have had a chance to look at it, you notice that the edges seem to slowly grow or shrink all the while still maintaining approximately the same size.

An overwhelming sense of evil and malign emotions washes over you like a predatory wave causing you to pause a moment. Thoughts and sounds of screaming, crying and weeping, as well as a maniacal laughter and intent surges in your mind as you try to sort through the vile cacaphony in your minds. There is no doubt from any of you from where this has emanated from and it is definitely from the crimson glowing area.

Elvar seems to be taking this not so well and seems to be staggered and is gripping his head and lets out a slight groan as he leans against the statue thing. He shakes his head trying to shake it off. Elvar grunts out "I can see one hiding on the far side of the chamber and he is different from the others. Ahhhh..... He is hiding behind pillars on the far side of the room. .... I do not know how useful I am gong to be here, but I will try. There are about 10 creatures here. A larger group is near the crimson thingy..

In the pitch darkness of the chamber and not knowing where the opponents lie the three new companions search for their next actions.
