[IC] Sundered Skies (Closed)

Opening Encounter HfU: T-17.8

"Your not the only one whose body is saying stay away, kid. This is the really the scenic route to Kracen." as he looks to the throngs of walkers about. A small group of walkers looks over towards you and seems to be noticing the light. A group 5 of the restless dead stagger and lurch their way towards you as you quickly close the lantern to remove the visible light.

Even as the light has been shuttered the deaders still make their way over and mill around sniffing and begin a wholly unsettling and unnatural choir of moaning and rasping in frustration that nothing is to be found there. It's as if the corrupted energies that bound their form together can feel your life essence is here. They long to sate themselves in it and have been denied the one thing that will end their this rotting and unholy feeling that consumes them.

Elvar gracefully uses this moving displacement of the risen to draft your way quickly to the mountain wall. You stumble at little bit and stagger without the light, but the distance is short and the way fairly clear. There is a small group of 3 walkers within 5 feet of you and the outline; they are just standing and they appear to be looking right through you. They have not moved at all and are just staring blankly through the space that you occupy.

Elvar nocks his bow and puts his back to the wall and looks carefully out to the milling pack of walkers especially the one closest to you. "Please, take you time." he says with a small amount of playfulness, and a little that a healthy dose of sarcasm.

The Outline
Glowing soft-white runes and an outline in the mountain side is in front of you. The rectangular outline is approximately 5 feet wide and 8 feet tall with runes all around the outside of it. The runes appear to be written in an old dialect of celestial with elements of draconic mixed in and after a quite a few moments of looking at the syntax and usage you decipher that the runes say 'Herein lies the Seven Suns of the Elders. Enter not lest your faith be of the Elder ways. The Eighth Sun caused the Seven Suns to set 'til their progeny waken them from a faithless slumber. The new dawning of the seven suns shall be wrought of the faith of the righteous.'

Knowledge Notes
The Cave of the Seven Suns was lost to the bowels of history due to the Dragon Lords' heretifying the worship of the Elder Gods and destroying all knowledge of them - all written words and all that spoke their name. The Cave of the Seven Suns was tied to the Seven Elder Gods which were also represented by the seven suns of the solar system to which there has only ever been 4 as far as you have ever known.

The Seven Elders were Ghoar the Elder of Evil; Raemehr the Elder of Good; Khaeless the Elder of Magic Incarnate; Kyrie the Elder of the Sequestered Night; Mhorian the Elder of Death; Dhorius the Elder of Life; Thraugh the Elder of the Natural World; and Zharan the Elder of Entropy.

As he reads the inscritions, whispering the main points to Elvar, Derin feels slightly safer now that they are in an area where they maybe partially protected from Craught-Faer and his minions. He also begins to wonder if the doorway had been emitting light all this time or if it had illuminated when Elvar and he approached it. "Did you happen to notice if this had been glowing the whole time we were in the area? Well, nevermind it's not that important. I'm not a devout worshiper of any god, let alone these Elders, so perhaps one such as myself is not welcome here in such a holy place. I'd imagine that my parents may have been part of the Elder's religion, but there werent many records of their religion in any of the books they left with me. Nows the time to see if we're welcome in this sanctum or time we head for Kracen" Derin finishes searching the doorway for anymore secrets and is now looking at Elvar, glacing back and forth between the zombies. "As far as I'm concerned, these Elders seem to be the lesser of two evils, if at all. Hell, who knows, they maybe quite hospitable, cause by the looks of it they haven't had visitors for quite some time. Derin looks back up at the door.

"I did not notice them. I was more worried about these restless walkers. My family spoke of a time when the Elders dominated, but only rarely and hushed. My grand parents took vacations to a place farther in the mountains and came back and discussed such things, but not with me. Other than that I do not know much about those times. I may be significantly older than you, but I am not that old." He smiles lightly, while his eyes never move from the walkers. The runes seem to beckon you.

Campaign Notes

This next section will have lots of chances for this Channeling. There will be a special signature that you can detect via Detect Magic. I have not decided what it is yet. Hint, Hint! =)

"It's set then. We shall find a way into this sactuary and leave the ranks of the foul undead." Derin reutrns to investigate the wall further, searching for a way to open this door as it seems.

As you search the outline and runes nothing seems to jump out at you. As you spend time searching for a way to open this 'door' nothing jumps out as you as trigger. You notice the runes and the outline are slowly and rhythmically pulsing.

Detect Magic reveals strong abjuration with a hint of Transmutation. The levels present of each tells you from your reading that this may be activated by channeling.

Opening Encounter T-17.1

You begin to concentrate and to allow the weave to focus on the 'door'. You can feel the weave moving to your will.

The runes pulse and throb quickly and softly as small tendrils of smoke rise from the outline in the mountain wall. After a few moments the rock on the inside of the outline becomes translucent. The rock is still there but your eyes are able to pierce through it and see into the pitch of the passage it reveals. The runes start pulsing again but slower, and then they begin to pulse a little bit faster as if the pulsing is accelerating.

Derin seeing this as an opportunity to peer inside the belly of the mountain afixes his gaze on anything he can see past the door and begins to press his hands against the translucent wall now infront of him, "This is amazing." he says in complete amazement. "My eyes have never lain on anything as marvelous as this before!"
