ICV2 Spring RPG Ranking Out

ICv2, given its limited scope and methodology, already doesn't mean much. It serves only as a flawed measure of interest in particular games.

And, in that sense, I think the comparison could be quite interesting.

Yeah, on Amazon right now, for example, the 4E PHB is outselling the current Pathfinder rulebooks (and PHB2 over all but one).

The fact is, we really don't have a good view of what/how things are selling, regardless of what particular metric edition warriors are touting as "proof". The companies just aren't letting us know (nor are they obligated to).

As was suggested, I don’t think we can really see what the impact of D&D5th will be until all the books have been released, and this possibly won’t be recordable till the start of next year.

The main titles by genre are fairly obvious though:

D&D/Pathfinder for Fantasy.
Star Wars for Space Opera.
Shadowrun for Urban Fantasy.

FATE’s continued presence in the top 5 is notable, and it’s largely because of a well packaged, well supported series of books as much as anything else. I’m not really that much of a fan of the system, but I respect it when game companies get their act together well, nevertheless. I could say similar things about Numenara too.

Notably there are no horror or supers games in the top 5 (unless FATE counts, as a generic system) - but I wonder what the impact of Call of Cthulhu 7E will be, and note that if the WoD and Marvel Supers were still being sold through conventional FLGS they would probably be on the list too.
