I was doing some quick math.

If 9 of 10 PHB2s was downloaded illegally, now that's turned into 10 of 10, right? They just increased piracy by 10%.

No they didn't as online piracy is now nothing they can compare to their online sales. So the 10:1 thing is nothing which shareholders will hear again from, right? They will just know that 200k copies sold of PHB2 and 5k got pirated - thats 2,5% and OK for the statistics. :D :P

you do realize that they want to protect the hoby industry and brick an mortar buisnesses becuse it is there own best intrest...

really do you think it is funny or is this just a dig at Wotc for no good reason?

again I am not saying they are selfless here...it is in there best intrest to grow the industry...

I think that WOTC cares a great deal about the industry- so long as we define "industry" as being thier current product line. I really don't think they give a rats ass about any gamer in the hobby that isn't interested in thier current offerings even if such gamers are willing to still give them money for past offerings.

Buy our Spishak cola or we won't sell you a drink at all. No thanks.

I am not convinced that math is your or Greg Leeds strong point. ;)

I think his answer about them definitely not selling pdfs in-house was worrisome. To be blunt, the only digital content I will pay a penny for is something I can download and use off-line. I'm not going to go for any new subscription service where I pay for the right to look at stuff on their server.

"We worry about piracy and brick and mortar business. Others, doesn't. They keep using the evil PDF format. They want to ruin your hobby. We are heroes."

Yep, that was rude. But there might exist some point of debate there: the question of what is considered the industry regarding the market of the hobby.

But for all intents and purposes, isn't WoTC "the industry"?

Not saying that other companies don't exist or that they're #1 in the miniatures business but the gap between them and their second competitor is well, all of their competitors probably don't do as much business RPG wise and probably CCG wise no?

Not so long ago, Detroit's big three was considered "the car industry," too.
