ID this monster!

Interesting that the Kelmain were drawn from Moorcock, as at least one of the LJN NPCs in Shady Dragon is listed as having a Nihrain steed (Strongheart, maybe? I forget), also from Moorcock.

Evidently, the Heartstone/LJN characters are actually from the Young Kingdoms. :)

Actually, I don't know if there's a thread floating around here somewhere with people's attempts to convert/update the LJN/Heartstone characters to 3.5 (or, possibly giving them a mega-boost to put them on par with the uber-powerful version of Warduke provided in Dungeon).

As for Mandoom, I think the figure's larger than he should be, according to the stats I posted. Sounds like he's supposed to be one of the 5" tall Shield Shooter figures (like the Northman).

Then again, that's the thing that perplexed me about the 5" tall figure line--many of the characters were supposed to be giants & the like--so was Northman supposed to be a normal-looking good-aligned Frost Giant or something?

Oddly enough, when I saw Drew's "square eyes" reference, I immediately thought of the Kelmain, despite not having read that entry for at least 6 or 7 years.

Odder still, I purchased and read (what I thought) was the entire Elric saga (again, 6 or 7 years ago). However, I can recall absolutely ZERO reference to the Kelmain!

Off hand, does anybody know which Elric book the Kelmain are supposed to be in? Thanks!

Here ya go.

The Vanishing Tower is divided into three books. In the first book Elric travels north to Lormyr in search of his nemisis Theleb K'aarna the Pan Tangian sorcerer. Accompanying Elric is his faithful friend, Moonglum, a red-headed swashbuckler from Elwer. In the wintry lands they encounter the shape-shifting Oonai. In the form of winged snakes, wrapping their many coils about them, the Oonai capture Elric and Moonglum and fly north beyond Lormyr to the Worlds End. Suspecting the Oonai must have been conjured by Theleb K'aarna, Elric summons Fileet, the goddess of birds, to help defeat the creatures of chaos. Upon their escape from the Oonai, our troubled hero and his compaion discover the Castle Kaneloon and inside under a sorcerous sleep the Lady Myshella. Soon after, Theleb K'aarna arrives with an army of man-like creatures known as the Kelmain. Elric awakens the Lady Myshella just in time for her to summon the Noose of Flesh which first surrounds and then smothers the advancing army of Kelmain. Unable to escape the doomed ranks of kelmain soldiery, Theleb K'aarna is thought dead.

I believe there were a couple of threads on them at one point. Not sure where they are or how far they got now. There's a blog somewhere that someone did some stat conversions as well.

I didn't notice that until you just pointed it out. Yeah, Mandoom is definitely taller than he should be by those stats. Then again, Mettaflame (the fire giant) isn't as tall as he should be either.

Then again, that's the thing that perplexed me about the 5" tall figure line--many of the characters were supposed to be giants & the like--so was Northman supposed to be a normal-looking good-aligned Frost Giant or something?

I figure he's just a really, really tall barbarian. ;)

Like with Mettaflame not being the correct size, I think they just had standard sizes for the molds/packaging, and had to find toys that they could try to shoehorn into those categories for diversity.

This is the coolest thread ever. EVER! The geeky knowledge available on ENWorld just overwhelms . . .

Now somebody needs to write up a 3E conversion of the Kelmain with advanced stats for Mandoom!

This should be rather simple. Based solely on the 1E stats posted earlier, I'd suggest making the standard a 1st-level fighter (similar to the planetouched as 1st-level warriors), outsiders with the extraplanar subtype, native to LImbo, and give 'em immunity to petrification and paralysis. Probably some natural armor to help account for their great AC. Favored class fighter.
