Ideal Party Make-up.

Mainly because I'm bored, but also because I'm very interested, I would like to know what you consider the ideal Six person party consists of, now a few guidelines to make it fair, Any of the Playable Races in the FRCR. That includes every from Assimar to Tiefling. ELC doesn't matter, you can go into as much detail as you want, Ie feat's and skills. I just thought this would be fun to see what each person thinks would be the best.

I'm not going to go into amazing detail. To me, it's more about filling certain roles, not about a specific class with specific stats, skills, and feats.

1. A big whoop-ass fighter type, one who can bring the smack.
2. A straight-up arcane caster.
3. A straight-up divine caster.
4. A utility man, with a wide variety of skills and special abilities.
5. A supplemental caster, of either variety, but also with some decent fighting ability.
6. Something strange, a character that brings bizarre/rare skills to the group, who fills out those often-missed aspects (especially when you've got several characters who are very focused on one or two things).

Howdy!

In general, I would use a 6-person party like:

1. Pure fighter (human, dwarf, or half-orc) with high strength and HP plus heavy armor as the main fighter;

2. Cleric (human) with high wisdom and constitution and heavy armor for support, fight as needed

3. Wizard (human or elf) with high intelligence for arcane casting

4. Rogue (halfling or gnome (multi-class with illusionist perhaps)) for stealth, traps

5. Wilderness expert (Ranger, Barbarian, or Druid depending on campaign -- default to Ranger for the tracking and stealth or Barbarian if need extra front-line fighter)

6. Paladin or Bard to act as the public face for group, depending on campaign (Paladin for more combat, undead; Bards for urban or roguish campaigns).

Well because it's only fair
PHB Halfing=Rogue
Human=Fighter
Drow=Wizard
Human=Druid
Half Elf=Cleric
Assimer=Paladin

The first five I would say is my set in stone choices, but for number Six you could alternate between a Human Ranger, Assimar Bard, or a Half Orc Barbarian.

The question "Ideal for what" comes to mind. No party is ideal for everything. The party that's ideal for knock-down drag-out fights will probably be lousy at court intrigue. The ideal generalist party will not be ideal for combat, and so on.

So, what's the context? Ideal for combat, ideal for general adventuring, ideal for the type of play I engage in most/like best?

Hmmm here's an idea why not post three set's of parties for each type of play style, One for Combat, One for Intrigue, and one for a general adventure party.

How about:

2 players who actually like to roleplay (Roleplayers).

2 players who don't care about roleplaying and just want to kill monsters (Wargamers).

1 player who's funny and can smooth over fights between the Roleplayers and the Wargamers (Mediator).

1 DM who can tell good stories and still conduct a good battle.

By having a good mix between Wargamers and Roleplayers, you get a good mix between action and combat and actual roleplaying and storytelling.

If the group were all Roleplayers, then nothing would actually get done, as they'd be too busy roleplaying encounters with the local merchants. The Wargamers would naturally want to go out and kill some monsters and take their shinies. The two attempting to work together as players would help move the story along. The Mediator would be necessary to break the tension.

Oh, wait, you meant what character classes would be best in a party? Pshaw, that doesn't matter! :D

I am going to err on the side of sanity and give you the perfect six person team for adventuring in my world, Ganymede.

1. Human Fighter or Urban Ranger.
2. Human or Dwarven Cleric of Hermant.
3. Human or Halfling Rogue.
4. Human Wizard of the City Mage's Guild.
5. Human Aristocrat or Bard.
6. Human Fighter/Rogue or Fighter/Wizard.

Thus, you've got plenty of combat & magic readiness, and people who can deal with courtly intrigue.
