Ideas for a cool prosthetic limb?

In my sea farring campaign I tricked the captain into using a gun crafted by a gnome who he pissed off during the journey. The gnome rigged it so it blew up. He lost his hand so Im thinking what should I send him to get? Definateley not vecnas hand but something like that... maybe a gnomish artifact?

I vote you either have it replaced with another gun (one that doesn't blow up preferably) or a Bag of Devouring that can make a bite attack against his foes.

For added color, he gives the bag a name and teaches it to tell dirty jokes. :D

I was thinking of putting his first gun on it, but I dunno I want to give him something very strange and original I was thinking... a cursed item? Something that will help and hinder him maybe? Or some sort of gizmo thing he is a bard going for dread pirate.

Symbiotic parrot?

A starfish is basically hand-shaped, and it can barf up its own stomach!

Then again, an octopus-like tentacle would be cool, if not a bit disturbing.

Maybe a magic wooden hand that can meld and control wood? That way, he can control the entire ship just by holding his hand on the helm.

A +1 bladed guantlet (psionic) that can cast graft weapon and duodimensional hand on command. :D

Or a chainsaw. I love the symbiotic parrot idea too. Better still, turn the stereotypical war-amp pirate around and give him an arm-patch, hook-leg, and peg-eye.

If he's an aquatic character, you could always go with the golden harpoon.

Or perhaps a glowing magical hand?

Remember, your character will be ten times as good if he grows a beard.

Then if he found a ring or a trident of fish commanding or some magical item like that he'd be all set.

He is a gnome, I would think about Swiss-Army Knife hand, one that could change shape to a tool the gnome may have need of, knife, screw-driver, saw, pick, hammer...

The old horror film staple... an evil hand that tries to ruin his reputation and strangle his girlfriend.

Or if you're not feeling that mean, a hand with a more pleasant personality - or even just a couple of quirks - perhaps it was designed for a famous bard and wants to play music all the time?

If you go to your FLGS and take a look at a copy of Torn Asunder: Critical Hits (Bastion Press), you'll find a section devoted to artificial limbs. It was co-written by a guy who is a Certified Prosthethics Assistant. I am willing to bet you will find exactly what you want in it. :)

Sheesh... thought I was rpg.net for a second, there. Aquaman gets no respect. ;)

Ocean related...lets see... How about a hand crafted of living coral, or perhaps a graft taken from a sea hag. Perhaps you would prefer a skeletal hand spellstitched with scrimshaw or a vine horror symbiote which wraps around the length of his arm. You could modify the half-golem template to allow for a sand-hand, or perhaps as was previously suggested, one made of wood (bleached and gnarled driftwood encrusted with barnacles). If the character remained near water, go for an anemone. If kuo-toa are nearby, steal a pincer staff and modify the claw for use as a prosthetic.

You should replace it with a bucket. That way, you could, like dump oatmeal on things...or sit on it when you get tired...

Either that or a bullhorn. That way you can walk around and make sure people hear all the important things you have to say...like, "I am still awesome!"

You know...or else maybe some laser beams or a guitar...

To blazes with the prosthetics! Have him sacrifice himself and imbed his soul into the ship, so he BECOMES the ship, and can control it by himself. Yar! Try and run away with me ship now, pirates!
