Ideas for a thief/swashbuckler.

First Post
Im going to be playing a level 10 thief swashbuckler in an upcoming campaing. (Yeay, I get to play again!!) I plan to go thief 3/swashbuckler 7 and thak the feat that lets my sneak attack damage levels of thief and swashbuckler. I want to play a high-flying, wise-cracking (cheesy Spanish accent) highly unusual type. Any really good ideas for feats and perhaps unusual gear? Not sure on ststs ot magic items. If you have a good one let me know and I'll inquire about the possibility of starting with it.

Two Weapon Fighting is your friend! A Rapier/Main-Gauche is quite the common swashbuckler gear, and Daring Outlaw makes it shine.

Another idea to consider is taking a 4th level of rogue in order to take the alternate class feature from PHB2 that trades in uncanny dodge for the ability to trade in your sneak attack damage for a -4 penalty to your opponent's AC for 1 round, which works against foes immune to sneak attack (making you useful, even if you're up against constructs and undead, especially if there's a power-attacker in the party)

Also, be sure to take a level of rogue to start off, to get the huge skill point boost.

I like going with combat expertise, twf, and improved buckler defense - when combined with the eventual flanking bonus the swashbuckler class gets, you can afford to fight defensively, obtaining a very respectable AC, and still hit often enough to deal some pretty serious damage. (Tumble is a must for getting into good flanking positions).

Oh ho! A swashbuckler, eh...sounds entertaining...

Hmm, feat selections, depending on what books you have available...

Combat Expertise, Dodge, Mobility (don't know the swashbuckler off the top of my head, so you may have some of these as class virtuals). The end result being getting to Spring Attack, so that you can dance through combat, poking the bad guys and whittling them down...

Weapon Proficiency: Whip - because who doesn't like Zorro. And you should be able to use it to assist swings, jumps, etc...if you have a good DM.

QFT. LOTS of Tumble...as much as you can.

Possibly even Skill Focus: Tumble. And don't forget to pump synergistic skills like Balance and Jump so you are as mobile and lightfooted as possible.

I think you'd end up happier a Swashbucler 3/ Rogue 7 as Swashbucler is awful after level 3.

Unless your goal is a warrior. In which case improved HD and BAB are a boon, at the cost of skills. You're already getting sneak attack from the Daring Outlaw.

The feat he talks about grants Sneak Attack progression (stacking with Rogue levels). In which case, Swashbuckler is suddenly not that bad. :) The extra hit points and BAB are nice.

I can only vaguely recall it, I need to look this up when I get home...sounds nasty. But that might provide better insight to the build query...

I would think you are looking at a high Dex/ high Cha build?

Look at the following feats:
Combat Panache (PHB2) - Some fun Cha based combat moves, and Play Dead
Telling Blow (?) - Add multiply sneak attack damage on crits (w/ keen rapier this is a sure way to massive damage saves)
Hamstring/Staggering Strike - Disable your foe when you sneak attack.

I think there is a tumbling feint feet too. Lets you make a tumble check to make people flat footed.
