D&D 5E Ideas for adventures

So I have been watching old Western TV shows, and noticed that some of these are great mines for adventure ideas. Some of them are better suited than others. The show Have Gun Will travel is probably the best for doing this. Tracked and Wanted Dead or Alive works if you want to do a track a BBG type of adventure. Maverick is great for scam type of adventures gone wrong for rogue characters.

You can add space western to that too...like Firefly/Serenity. You get character and adventure with conflict. (Although I hated the way the whole thing ended, but that might have been born of Joss Whedon's frustration and anger)

I also use the old Scooby-Doo as well. The illusionist sending "ghosts" to haunt people as a distraction was quite fun.

At the end of the adventure, did you do the reveal who the BBEG really was by ripping the mask off him the at the end? :)

Of course, it wouldn't have been a Scooby-Doo mystery if he didn't have a magic (cursed) mask that let him do some ghostly things.

Although they did figure out about halfway through what was going on; probably had something to do with my "random teleport to a different door in the hallway" scene. :uhoh:

Years ago when BadAxe Games was producing 3rd edition supplements I wrote a scenario for a solo Halfling Thief for the Halfling book. The scenario was based on the musical Oliver!

I have had success taking plots from James Bond movies, classic TV shows, science articles, travel shows, lower-profile genre novels, songs, and pieces of art.

Check RangerWickett’s “Campaign Ideas” link in my sig for examples from me and many fellow ENWorlders.
