Ideas for magical item for lowish level

Hey, I'm trying to figure out a good idea for a low level (4th) magical item for a swashbuckler/rogue. I was thinking of a ring of jumping... but thats a little boring... I think.

I am not really a big fan of stuff that simply boosts your stats, and it seems all the magical items in D&D do that. I want magical magic! :)

Get a ring of jumping and use it to pull off crazy, spectacular stunts. Boringness and interestingness is what you make of it.

I don't know how much cash your character has, but you might consider boots of striding and springing (5,500 gp) instead of a ring of jumping (2,500 gp). You still get the +5 bonus to jump checks, but you also get a 10-foot enhancement bonus to your base land speed.

If by "stat boost" you mean ability scores, then I don't imagine you'd be averse to a +1 or +2 mithral shirt. Light armor, no armor check penalty, +6 max dex... Mithral shirts rock.

Of course, there are always the good old handy haversack and the ring of sustenance, which are extremely useful for any low- to mid-level character.

Thanks for your input everyone. I decided against the boots (since I am the DM), they just seem a little too big a bonus right now. Maybe down the line it would be nice though.

The mithral shirt is a nice idea too.

Have you looked at a Ring of Feather Falling?

It would be a good item to save the character when failing at attempting various acrobatic stunts.
