I'm Ray...of Enfeeblement
Hi there, I'm playing a wizard who specialises in rays and touch attacks however my dex is average, (thus no bonus), and obviously his BAB is awful.

Now apart from the obvious dex enhancing item what other items are out there which could help.

More importantly what are peoples ideas on crafting a couple of weapons that would function like any other missile weapon however obviously using touch and ray spells as the ammo? In this way I could enchant these weapons to get bonuses to hit, (and damage, however I'm not bothered about the extra damage just the to hit bonus).

Is this a broken idea? What about just being able to get the to hit bonus and not the damage?

Here's a simple idea, but how about just making a version of bracers of archery that work with ray spells instead of bows?

Cheers,
Vurt

I came up with an item like that some time ago, called the Rod of Spellstriking. The base item is a masterwork wand-like rod costing 500 gp, which provides no enhancement, but then it can be enhanced with standard weapon enhancement bonuses at the prices listed in the DMG. When you cast a spell and channel it through the rod, the enhancement bonus is added to your ranged touch attack roll (if required) and to your caster level check to overcome a target's spell resistance.

Although it is enhanced as a weapon, the rod requires the Craft Rod feat to produce.

Mark, that's really quite interesting!!! I like the idea of having a sort of mages "boom-stick".

I'd like it to be possibly crafted using arms and armour, that way I can get it quicker.

Thank you.

That could work Vurt and I could use craft wondrous items which I already have.

Choices choices.

I don't think it's unbalanced to do it that way - I just made it a rod because that seemed the most appropriate 'catch-all' category for weapon-like items.

The original idea behind it was to create a general-purpose "wizard's wand" in the Harry Potter style, since standard D&D wands don't really simulate such an item.
