If only...

Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) is doing many things right with 4th. They are reworking, rebalancing, and reinventing D&D to be a better game and I think that's great!

However, WOTC is also doing many things wrong. They are abandoning many of their classic flavors elements that have defined D&D for over 25 years. This is upsetting to many people.

If only there was some company that really liked the old flavor. A company dedicated to the old flavor. A company that would keep alive all the old traditions that were thought dead. A “necromancer” if you will?

Maybe this company would print books with the 4th edition rules but keep the 1st edition flavor. They could print a book which would have all the things WOTC didn't print like Bards, Gnomes, Druids, etc. It would guide them towards classic play. They could also print a monster book with all the classic monsters in all their classic flavor. This company could even name said monster book after a classic module that was deadly but memorable. Hell, they could even do an adventure path full of classic flavor!

But how could we be sure such books would be good, you may ask? Well, perhaps this company could have printed books in the era of 3rd edition, like adventures or maybe a giant book full of super powerful items that would shake campaign worlds? That way, this company would have a track record of quality products. If you never read these 3rd edition books, perhaps this company could release a free, downloadable adventure when 4th edition comes out? Try it before you buy it, if you will?

If such a company existed, I bet it could be quite successful. It could sell books full of classic flavor to players who would prefer D&D to remain true to its roots. A player could play 4th edition with all of it new rules and still would be able to play with the classic flavor thanks to the products of this company. People who demand classic flavor would have that demand fulfilled. Wouldn’t that be great?

Too bad there isn’t a company like that out there. If only such a company existed…

This is not humor. It's also semi-pointless. It'd be like making a post about needing a company to help those staying with 3.5 to "find a path" slightly evolved ruleset.

I really just gotta ask, and mind that I mean no offense....

DO YOU WORK FOR THIS HYPOTHETICAL COMPANY?

I was just curious, as that's a pretty fine sales pitch

What is the point of this post? We all know about Necromancers and their plans, If you want to entice people, try the WoTC boards, I bet you will have more luck.

If you were being funny, I apologies, I just didn't get it. Must be a cultural thing.

Well the whole reason I made this post was because it bugs me when people complain about why WOTC isn't making this or that when there are plenty of 3rd party companys producing this or that.

It's like complaining about how Pizza Hut stopped making pepper pizza while you are standing outside of Bob's pizza shack with its award winning pepper pizza.

I just picked Necromaner Games as an example because it's a company I know of.

I guess it didn't work. Oh well, back to the drawing board...

The point of keeping old flavor is very subjective. To each their own.

Taste changes, and if you want to stay at the top of a competitive market you have to adapt to the new reality. If all the teenagers look at D&D 3.5 and say, meh! You have a big problem.

Personally, I had some problems adapting, but if I want to play the new 4E I have no choice. I give them two years to deliver, if 4E doesn't give me what I want I'll sell my book and look somewhere else.
