If Soccer were a skill, what would it be like?

Would it be Profession: Soccer?

Would it be Craft: Soccer?

Would it just be its own skill, Soccer?

Would it be a subset of another skill, like Jump?

What ability score should it be keyed off?

I don't think it would be a skill at all. Just like combat uses Str, Dex and Con (and possibly the rest of your stats, too) I think that playing a sport would be much the same.

To be very good at soccer (good enough to make money), it requires a number of skill-like abilities as well as rules knowledge so I would go with Profession: Soccer Player, although anyone can just play the game.

Judging by the amount of AoOs in a professional soccer game, Combat Reflexes is the necessary ability for that sport. :)

Perform (fake injury) seems to be a requisite as well.

To be a Soccer Player, you'd need:

- Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Soccer Ball -> So you don't take the -4 nonproficiency penalty when trying to kick the ball anywhere. Most defense players don't bother with this. The soccer ball is a ranged thrown weapon that deals 1d3 nonlethal damage, with a range increment of 10 feet.

- Players known for their mighty kicks favor Brutal Throw.

- To notice an allied player free to receive the ball, you need Spot.

- To evade defenders, you need Bluff (Garrincha had maxxed out Bluff and Improved Feint).

- To score a goal, you need to hit a ranged touch attack against the goal itself (AC 3, being a Huge target with 0 Dexterity, modified by range). To catch the ball, a goalie must succeed on a melee touch attack opposed by the striker's ranged touch attack.

Of course, this is all House Rules material.

I'd go with Klaus' suggestions. I'm working on coming up with a sport based on some ancient mesoamerican sports and I'm taking a lot of the same kinds of approaches - if you intend to play something out as part of an actual game, you want it to be interesting, and to do that you have to make it accessible to as many of the PC's as possible.
