If you are ethereal...

Now if the DM really wants to mess up players minds...

They enter a series of rooms full of thick mist.

Halfway through the series of rooms they pass through a gate onto the ethereal plane, with walls of ethereal stone, and they see things in the material plane as misty images

They come across the enemy wizard - but they are unable to assault him, because they are ethereal. He has See Invisibility up, so he can see them... and he can target them with force effects such as magic missile!

They could face pretty nasty casualties if it takes them too long to work out what is going on...

The ninja's (Complete Adventurer) ghost strike ability also allows it to strike creaturees on the Material Plane while they are on the Ethereal Plane.

Really? That would make it pretty much unique in terms of striking from the ethereal to the material if it is so.

Found it! Transdimensional Spell (Complete Arcane p84) is (as I thought it was) a metamagic FEAT:

You can cast spells that affect targets lurking in coexistent planes and extradimensional spaces whose entrances fall within the spell's area.

Unfortunately the feat works the reverse. It allows those on the material to effect ethereal creatures, not the other way around :(
Why only in reverse? If X is coexistant with Y, then Y is coexistant with X, isn't it?

That's a great idea.

That only works if you rule that they cannot discern the fact that there is no gravity. Personally, I think they would. But, nevertheless it is a very intriguing idea.

Yeah, I thought that ghostouch equipment worked whichever way was most advantageous.

Don't make me open a book!

No, ghosttouch works against incorporeal. Other planes don't enter into it.

I was refering to Transdimensional Spell: If you are on the ethereal plane, then you transdimensional spells affect coexistant planes, such as the prime. What am I missing?

Ghost Touch has nothing to do with it - it affects incorporeal beings, and allows incorporeal beings to affect material beings. It has no effect in connection with etherealness.

Transdimensional Spell, on the other hand, ought to work in either direction if it allows spells to affect coexistent planes.

If you are ethereal, can you attack into the Material Plane without any problem (such as miss chance)? If not, what are some ways (feats, spells, class abilities) which would allow you to?
So far as I can see, blink should be effective (within the limits described in the spell description).
