If you could try a RPG that ISN'T D&D...

I hate Rifts. I will never play that again using the Palladium system. The whole system is outdated. :mad

However, I want to play: :erm
Well, it doesn't matter what system I play as long as I'm having fun, right?

Someone mentioned Star Frontiers. I just wanted to point out that d20 Future is pretty much SF (including all the races).

For those considering HERO, I fully encourage it. My company is finishing a Campaign Setting for HERO (Fantasy) that is only requiring the $9.99 HERO System Sidekick to play. This is a great way to get into HERO if that interests you.

The Sidekick is a great intro and small investment. I try to run demos at as many cons as possible in the Detroit Area, as well as the 2 big cons. I'm running a game at the ENWorld Detroit Game Day The HERO boards are a very friendly place with many people anxious to help out any new player.

I'll also vouch for Savage Worlds and say it is a lot of fun. Rules light and fast. I prefer more crunch, but with a lot of cinematic heroics. That's why I usually play HERO.

Talislanta - Such a unique flavorful setting, with simple game mechanics
Earthdawn - The bestest campaign setting ever, with some broken mechanics
CoC - For those days when you are feeling a lil nutty or in New England.
Paranoia - Just nutty, and fun - complete insanity.
Spycraft - who does not want to be 007?
Feng Shui - The art of home esthetics taken to a new level :p

Everway and Theatrix - so many cool ideas, though I think they would be very tough on the GM
Not really. I've run Everway, both one-shots and short campaigns, and it wasn't really any harder. In fact, in some ways, it was easier--i'd just go through my card collection and pick out images, and then construct the scenario around that. Instant brainstorming aid. And statting up NPCs is way easier than most games, so even that's not an issue.

As for Theatrix, i've never actually run it, but i've played it. And between that, and reading it, i'd say so long as you have a good handle on the setting and mood/genre you're going for, it's a piece of cake. Even easier than Everway in some ways, because it's more straightforward in how it plays--just diceless and dramatist instead of randomized and gamist.

I would love to try Mechanical Dream with an experianced GM.

But the games I would really enjoying playing are Transhuman Space*, Blue Planet*, Gamma World*, Army Ants, and The Collectors**

*Using Alternity

** A Fudge based game from Pagan Publishing. You play a demon who collects souls that have been signed away.

Hi,

* Paranoia XP -- one of my mates has just bought this. Can't wait to play! We have fond memories of the original.

* Call of Cthulhu -- my 2nd favourite RPG

* Feng Shui -- have the games and a few supplements. Never played it.

*Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- still waiting for my girlfriend to run this.

* Deadlands (non-d20) -- played this once in the post-apocalypse setting. Would like to try the Wild West only version.

* Everway -- have this, never played it. Didn't know what to make of it!

* Heroquest, Exalted -- never tried these, but would like to.

Cheers

Richard

Ones that I'd like to try that I've never played:
Pendragon
GURPS
Conan
Grim Tales

One's I want to play again:
Paranoia
Metamorphosis Alpha
Call of Cthulhu (BRP)
Runequest (BRP)
OD&D(1974)
Bushido

Good news for me with my D&D campaign hitting a natural break point it looks like we'll get a chance to play Conan.

Exalted - bought it, read it, need to run it (and love it) :D

Fading Suns - the closest thing to my beloved WH40K - never played, always wanted

Deadlands - great concept, great storyline, not bad mechanics, but my players just don't seem to be hooked by it...

Vampire Dark Ages - I'm big fan of this setting, but never had a chance to play :(

Call of Cthulhu - great game, played few times, want more...

Star Wars - either d6 or d20. Doesn't matter...

Dark Matter/d20 modern/d20 future - plan to run a cross-over

Of course there are hundreds systems to be played. These are the top of my list.

Regards,
d.
