If you don't check out D&D software you are missing out!

Here's what I want:

Rather than something to keep track of combat, I want a program that has the SRD in some text format, easily printable.

Then, I want to be able to add text. I want to be able to click, "Add feat," and it will let me type in a feat that is then sorted into the list.

I want to be able to edit text, so I can houserule things.

I want to be able to print off certain sections on index cards (like monsters).

Then, I want the program to autoformat it (like LaTeX) so that it looks nice when I print it out for a notebook.

This way, I won't have to lug 6 books to a game. That would be far more useful to some of us that house rule extensively than a character generator program.

Don Adam... what's stopping you from doing that in a word processor? Most of what you need can be done with templates and macros.

Since we're on the topic of Combat Managers... I would like to point out Crystal Ball . It's the only program of this kind for the Macintosh. :)

I certainly use my PC to prepare games, but I refuse to have a laptop at the game table. It kinda taked away the charm of a PNP role-playing game, and if the rules have become so complicated that it requires a computer to play, then the designers of the game have utterly failed.

If we're all going to bring laptops to game night, we might as well hook them up with a LAN and play Neverwinter Nights.

One mans opinion, of course.

Well, I'll plug DMGenie here (www.dmgenie.com )

It's a multi-functional program that can be used at the gaming table, but has a phenomenal wealth of things to use away from the table in preperation as well.

It's saved me countless hours of tweaking and rolling up NPC's, especially when the last session I ran, I had decided to procrastinate and leave all preperation until the day before. I had NPC and monster stat blocks in a matter of maybe a few hours (I do a lot of specific type critters).

Also, the support is some of the best I've ever witnessed, and you can pretty much add any class, prestige class, spell, feat, and condition that you would like to it, as well as get full support for psionics. They're even working on a random Treasure generator.

And no, I don't work for DMGenie. I'm just a very satisfied customer of theirs, and I don't see their software mentioned enough online.
