I'll give you - let me think - 5k for the real thing.

Oh, could I please borrow 5k?

Edit: Let me get back to you both; I've got some serious saving to do. :(

Someone needs to tell Col Pladoh about this thread.

Mine was a joke -I do not think I could get 9k, and if I could I do not know if I would even sell it. But I figured if 7k would get him the book, mine should be worth at least 9k :D .

My post did seem to hijack the thread but, as there haven't been any complaints...

I didn't take your post seriously, Hal but I would consider spending serious money on the thing, should the opportunity avail itself. The only guides to the going rate for such an item are The Acaeum (www.acaeum.com), which reckons $2000 is within reason. But that site hasn't been updated in at least a year, as far as I can tell. The other clue is at the GenCon site, which mentions that a "woodgrain cover" edition of D&D (ie one from the first three print runs) sold for I think it was $1200 at auction last year. Of course, Gary's and Dave's autographs would add to the value of such an item. Hal, you lucky, lucky...

I once had a 6th print run copy, and some very early print run copies of the 1st edition AD&D books and a lot else, all of which have long since disappeared. Nevertheless, as my bones get more brittle, the more thought I give to considering indulging the closet collector in me. Hmm...

Apart from anything else, I'd need at least two copies; one to keep hermetically sealed while I ran games with the other.

You know, whenever I see something like this - I always wonder how they "obtained" it.

Not to say that there is anything illegal going on here - but things like that are not generally found laying around......

lets see old rusted sword with no providence??? hmm
No paperwork on how it was dated except from 1 book I have on my shelf.
Hmm I wonder if I can sell this guy the false teeth of Ga washington.
