D&D 5E I'll Be Happy With the Next Play-Test Packet If..

As a professional senior editor of material for several successful Tokyo companies I will give WOTC a nice vote of confidence in the next edition if I can see the following changes.

This is a list of things that I expect in the next play-test packet.
These comments come with much love and belief in you.

Few spelling errors.

Better descriptions. Simpler instructions.

Less cut and paste from previous edition material and more interpreting that material in your own words and thoughts.

Have another person play-test your monster or spell first and add the information you forgot such as spell range and duration.

If this doesn't happen then I'll still accept the play-test material. But I would like to leave you with this little story.

When I was living in Seattle, I was just an Internet guy. But before I got a big break and came to Tokyo, I worked as an editor of English.

There was a guy who wasn't interested in the written material who didn't want to be in the office, turned in his work with obvious mistakes and was subtly adding jokes such as you get a free bottle if you're just really depressed. I didn't laugh. In fact, because he came to work inebriated just one time, I fired him.

I have nothing against doing whatever you want to do on your own time. But if you come to work drunk and high and not interested in doing your work -- I'm going to get very angry.

Our hobby is playing this game. We know who likes the game and who just considers it a job based on the material presented to us.

So good luck! I'm really counting on you! Let's have a look at the next Play-test packet.

Anyways, as playtest material, this stuff hasn't probably had an extensive pass by an editor - if at all. These are "living" documents.

Better descriptions. Simpler instructions.

Huh? This is a playtest document, not a finished work. Part of this process is seeing what's necessary, what can be inferred and where the rules get in the way too much. Be more specific what areas need more descriptions and which instructions are unclear. Such broad statements don't help them zero in on what's not working.

Why throw out over four editions worth of edited and vetted wordings for rewrites? This seems to conflict with #1.

Uh, this is a play test. That's what we're supposed to be helping them with. We're not getting the finished product at this time. As above, they're playing with the format to see what works and what doesn't. Don't get hussy about it, just let them know you want X and Y added.
 


The OP's list is almost entirely things I don't want them wasting a lot of time on. Cut every corner you can to get us new crunch to test, WotC.

I want new, glorious, well-written, interesting fluff in the final book but that's not what this is about.
