Illusory References

On this week's episode of Metagamers Anonymous, one of the discussions that came up in passing was the use of illusion magic and adjudicating illusions fairly. D&D has had a lot of different rulesets for handling illusions over the years - to a varying degree of effectiveness - but I was wondering if anyone is familiar with rules in other games for adjudicating illusion magic, its representation in game, and PC susceptibility.

And if you have an opinion about it or an experience you'd like to share, we'd love to hear about it on the show!

Caution: Though we try not to get into specifics, our program does discuss our Zeitgeist campaign (which is also available to listen to as an Actual Play) and may contain minor spoilers.

I don't remember the details any more, but I felt that Ars Magica 5e's treatment of 'illusion magic' (= Imaginem) was rather excellent. It is a bit setting-specific, though, since it goes into quite a bit of detail describing how medieval scholars imagined our senses to work.
