Funny. Just a couple of sessions ago one of my players needed to make an important Fort save.noffham said:Reminds me of the time the party barbarian was making a desperate attack against the BBEG, hoping to keep the other frontline fighter alive.
The players all chanted "nat 20! nat 20!". I stood up and pointed to the middle the table as she tossed the die and simply said, "A two".
The die landed (completely randomly of course) on 2.
The stunned silence that followed was priceless!
I have to admit to barking out an evil "Muwahh-ha-ha".
Those are the times that make DMing worth it! ;-)

So I said, "Roll a 3."
And he did.
Amidst the swearing, I just grinned and said, "Ultimate DMing power, baby!"
I've had a few "you bastard!" comments over the last couple of years, but one of the funniest was when I had a set of PCs each encounter a swarm that 'coincidentally' consisted of creatures the individual players were scared of.
I described the scene and one player turned, looked at me silently for a couple of seconds and then said, carefully enunciating every syllable, "Mother




The table lost it.
