I'm sorry if this has been brought up already but....

:D Hello. Sorry guys and gals if this has already been addressed but this has been bothering me and i didn't see any post as i searched on here. I've been arguing with WOTC about this too and i feel like my answer is correct as i've just read Dragons of Faerun. Does anybody know or think that the Sand Dragon from Sandstorm is the Forgotten Realms version of the Yellow Dragon? I know the Yellow does not have an official conversion (Dragon Compendium 1 does but that isn't the same dragon, i've argued with paizo too :D ) Anyways just wanted some opinions, read page 12 in Dragons of Faerun about the types of Dragons of Faerun and you may see what I mean. Plus it's ecology and abilities are very close to the 2nd edition version in FR. That's about it, thanx!!

They are similar, but they technically aren't the same. The yellow dragon in Dragon Compendium is a convert of an old Dragon Magazine article (actaully two dragon magazine articles as those three dragons got a 2.0 re-write).

The Yellow dragon from Forgotten Realms has not been converted yet.

That said, there are enough similarities between the sand dragon and yellow dragon that you could use the sand dragon as the yellow one, but I would postulate that the official stance is that they are not the same.

I agree. The sand dragon in Sandstorm is actually a new creature designed to incorporate some of the variant material introduced in Sandstrom.

As an aside, there is yet another sand dragon in Dragon #134.

Thank you gents for your answers and I would say your right. I suppose if the yellow is ever converted officially, there will be a slight over abundance of dragon species in the desert. Whatever it takes though lol. Thank you guys again!

Hmmm... faerûnian desert-dwelling dragons. We have:
  • Blue dragons
  • Brass dragons
  • Brown dragons
  • Jacinth dragons
  • Rattelyr dragons
  • Sand dragons
  • Yellow dragons
Yup. Pretty crowded deserts.

You mean that's a different dragon species to the Sandstorm variety? I hadn't noticed that :uhoh:

Yep. I don't have my archives handy at the moment, but I know it didn't use haboob as a SLA or have a "flaywind" breath weapon.

Well regardless, my opinion is, the more creatures (especially dragons) I have to work with, the better ;) Did anybody happen to mention when the boys were gonna convert the jade, moonstone and pearl dragons yet btw? Thanks

Oh ok, well that sounds good. Sorry i'm new to the site obviously and still looking through everything, i try not to repost information. On general monster conversions or even dragons, does anybody need help with that? I've been meaning to start anyway with quite a few on the list (I looked at the non-converted list and i've been using the creature catalog for years anyways) On the creatures that i have the old source books for, I may be of assistance. If anybody can let me know, and if I have time, I can try to start and i just need to know the rules (I am assuming they are approved before posting, etc) Later gents
