The OP may be starving for a Kraken, but calamari isn't a good choice. I hear Kraken is far too gamy to be tasty.
True - you need to soak it in lye for a while, like lutefisk.

Cut the tentacles into rings, about 1 inch thick, then dry, salt, or smoke the resulting rings. The rings can keep for several months if kept dry.

To prepare place smoked, salted, or dried tentacle rings into a stone or stoneware container, not metal or glass. Add enough lye/water mixture to barely cover the rings, and loosely cover the container .

Let set for three days - the rings should have a consistency similar to soft rubber.

Remove rings and rinse in ice water several times, the ice water will help firm the kraken rings.Keep chilled until you are ready to cook.

The rings can then be either breaded and fried or can be baked with a sprinkling of salt and pepper at 375 degrees for 40 minutes. Do not over cook! The rings will not brown, over cooking will reduce them to the consistency of thick aspic. Judge doneness by picking the rings with a fork - when ready the rings will become flaky. Serve with melted butter.

One pound will serve one person. Serve with cabbage and either rice or potatoes.
