If we are talking about a clubhouse of an apartment or the communally owned property of a subdivision wherein a few of the residents were in the gaming club, then likely the property owner does not get a say in if they can use it. If you have the legal right to use the property then the landlord really has no way to stop you. Understandably businesses want to avoid controversy, but violation of a contract is easy lawsuit controversy.

Landlords don't have completely free choice on who uses their property. If they sign a lease for a specific period of time and the tenant does nothing to violate said lease, the landlord can't simply kick the tenant out before the lease expires.

In the US, as far as I know (IANAL), the landlord has choice about WHO he wants to lease to, but not what the do once they are in, as long as they are doing business within the law.

I never said the landlord did anything wrong. It was all social pressure. And the club organizers agreed to leave to avoid controversy.

I wasn't a frequent participant. I'm not sure whether LARPing occurred or not.

Just hearing that people have nothing better to do with their lives than to attack how other people decide to spend their free time.

Sorry, no link to a story, just heard directly from the club organizers as they are old friends.

I don't think you appreciate just how problematic all fun is. Even games like Yatzee and Sorry can lead to fun which leads to other bad things like dancing.

A small but adamant group of people can push an agenda if they don't mind making waves. And especially if they do like making waves. It goes both ways though, so you have the option of activism at the expense of once in a while being inconvenienced by it yourself.

There are a few folks who hear D&D and think about steam tunnels and suicides. Could be that concept fits nicely into their worldview, so good for them. Readers of this page know better, but honestly it is probably not worth crusading against this misconception.

Have to admit to cringing when D&D comes up at work, and somebody gives me one of those looks. Rather not bother with it. C'est la vie!

A local club was targeted by people who found the activities of the club to be immoral. They stuffed unpostmarked flyers into the mailboxes of local residents, breaking the law to "alert" the town to the "problem." The landlord confronted the club organizers and pressured them into moving out of the clubhouse. Even though police and town official made it clear that the club was doing nothing illegal and that, in fact, the "morally upright crusaders" were the only ones to have broken a law by stuffing flyers in people's mailboxes.

Yes, it would be nice to know what we are commenting on. There's a world of difference between a tennis club and a bondage club (usually).

But you know, I read this description and the first thing that came to mind was some sort of swingers group or other sexually related thing. I didn't even make the connection to gaming, despite being posted here. Perhaps there isn't that much difference between a tennis club, a gaming club, and sex club after all. (gasp! shock!)

Yeah, they're still out there, unfortunately it's still illegal to shoot them too.

The really sad part is, these folks think they are doing something good. Oh well, that's what libel and slander lawsuits are for...

When I saw the title and began reading I had assumed it was sexual orientation also. In college there was a huge issue because someone got a hold of the gay club member list and handed it out to the general public. Major issues then. Ah well.....

This strikes me as a "so what" kinda thing. Unless you're in Amish country being a DnDer is not as big of a thing these days. There is so much worse things and clubs. Like you belong to the "Paris is so hot" club. I wouldn't worry about it much.
